The sunk cost fallacy can only carry you so far..
I first played paladins during the open beta in 2016, after almost 7 years of nothing but losing players, halfassed character functionality, and a matchmaking system that has a success rate of approximately 30% for matches that do not end in one team hard stomping the other. i have finally given up on the game along with my friends.

Paladins is far from a "bad" game. but it has unfortunately been killed by its own creators incompetence at game development.
The biggets issues with the game at current are as follows;
1: matchmaking, as i mentioned theres roughly a 25-30% chance that the match you end up playing will be balanced enough to be enjoyable. the rest of the time it will either be a complete hard stomp of one team leading to people DCing or afking in their teams spawn room until the match is over, or one team throwing everything they can at the team of 3 GM players that didnt even que together.
its pretty rare for me to open a match stats online and see that both teams had similar ranking. the majority of the time its diamonds and GMs matched against silvers and plats.

2: character bugs, it is far too common for a character to end up completely neglected after a change that breaks a fundimental part of their kit. or even right out of release
an example i love to point to that is still in the game as of my last time playing is Lilith. who, after 7 months still has the same irritating bug with her kit where using Blood Hex and then pressing Swarm while the animation plays causes Swarm to activate but then not charge at all. the only options you have at this point are to let the ability fire with no charge (extremely sub-optimal) or to notice the bug and left click, which starts its charging for some reason.
There are other oversights that effect game play more directly like zhin's counter, which is supposed to provide short term immunity from front attacks, however the immunity provided by the ability is actually based on the ping of the players involved. sometimes lasting well over a second for players with bad latency.

and 3: a complete disregard for the community and their voices. probably the biggest reason nothing will change. An example is the sound bug which plagued the game for upwards of 6 months. which caused sounds from the game to effectively unload, making them nonexistant. It wouldn't have been a huge problem if it was a few sounds. but it was very common for entire games to become nearly silent except for the one or two people you can hear.

feels very similar to dying light 1, if you enjoyed that game you'll enjoy this one.

Honestly one of the better single player games i've played as of late. wont go into gameplay elements because spoilers.
and honestly, i can see myself chilling in leshy's cabin for a while just playing through it all for fun. seeing what kind of dumb things i can come up with.

incredible gameplay controls. this is one of the only space games i've ever played that encorporates full 3 dimensional movement and full 360 spinning in all directions. up is relative to your roll axis, the game feels like no other first or third person shooter beccause of its movement system. looking forward to the full game.

very simplistic game thats just fun. theres no crazy thing to talk about or any real complaints. its just a fun, farming simulator with several other minigame esc. mechanics. like dungeoning, fishing, and relationships.

the game itself is ok, but the vs mode is pretty much veterans only. at this point. because so much of the vs mode requires exploity animation cancels. "winning" in vs mode isn't based on skill so much as it is based on "who can break the game the hardest"

ground pounds to hard to hit? just pounce someone and animation cancle your stun to ground pound them.
2 handed weapon not swinging fast enough? just fire your grappling hook and then cancle it. takes 0.1 seconds and now you can swing the 2 handed again
night hunter stamina too high? do this other exploit that makes your flashlight activate twice and drain his stamina twice as fast.
spits too hard to dodge? just backslide every time you hear one. even if it lands behind you you'll zip out of the way before it explodes
got tackled while backliding trying to avoid a spit? do this other exploit that lets you block spits with a shield while evading a tackle.

pretty much every single punish window you have for missing or making a mistake has some animation cancel attached to it, usually its as simple as "fire the grappling hook"

the vs mode isnt fun anymore because you cant pick it up and learn how to play.
survivors rarely get night hunters because everyone who plays night hunter gets bullied into playing survivor. and anyone who isnt dedicated to the game gets bored after they beat the campaign and realise the only way to play vs's is to wait 30 minutes for a match or get destroyed by survivors who instakill you every time you miss a tackle or pounce.

great game, great characters.
it does have the single player problem though where you can only put so much time into it before getting bored.
co-op would've gone a long way to extend the game for me. especially considering they already went through the effort of making the game multiplayer (F.O.B. invasions) and made a playable quiet (also from FOB). it wouldnt have been to hard to make player 2 spawn in place of your buddy. seriously missed opportunity.

unfortunately since they fired kojima and basically ran the series into the ground to spite him. im not expecting a badass co-op stealth infiltration shooter any time soon.

life is strange 1 was an amazing game putting an entire new spin on the normally sequence of events based story games we know. this game being a sequel in the same world i was hoping it would have been the same quality and innovation. but this game plays more like a standard story game. like telltales story games. which doesnt warrent a bad review.. but this game also does something that i cant really forgive. lots and lots of major jump cuts. pretty much every chapter is some major jump cut where the old cast of characters is scrapped entirely, save for a few notes and maybe an easter egg. then a totally new cast of characters gets introduced, a problem arises. then that problem is delt with in some destructive way that forces the story forward into the next major jumpcut where the results of whatever explosion/major event are never really explained. not only that but the story has a pretty serious trend of racism. most of the story revolves around racism and uses it as a throwaway excuse at every opportunity to cause problems that dont move the story forward in the slightest. it got old after the first few times. you can wrap up most of the chapeters events in this series of phrases.
1: sean and daniel are traveling in some way to a new location that the player hasnt seen before
2: sean and daniel meet the new characters for this chapter
3: racist side character is racist and typically results in some sort of mass chaos that forces sean and daniel to leave before police arive.
4: sean and daniel leave the area to continue their march toward the border, then the game cuts to black and you get another lovely jumpcut of anywhere from a few weeks to a few months where all of the previous side characters (friendly or not) just suddenly stop existing.

rinse and repeat 5 times and you have a game?
theres almost zero side character permanence. the only 2 people who you have to give a ♥♥♥♥ about are sean and daniel. which is litteraly the polar opposite of life is strange 1 which had a VERY serious side character presence throughout all 5 of the games chapters. and quite a few choices you could make in life is strange 1 were choices you had to go out and find accidentally. like signing a petition which i didnt even know about on my first playthrough. this gave me as a player. a GOOD reason to go snooping around and fit my characters role as a snoopy detective photographer. the apple fell very far from the tree and sadly this is probably the only story based game that i'll tell people to avoid.

the game used to be a lot of fun when it first came out and nobody really knew how to properly run from jason. or where objectives spawned. now that people have figured that out the rounds are abusrdly hard for the jason player since anyone who takes the game seriously will be playing vanessa because vanessa is the only chatacter in the game who can out-jog every single jason even ones with the "can run" upside overall this is a game that you only want to play with friends. if you have 8 other people to play with who are all willing to buy the game.. if you already own the game the single player challenges are kind of fun to mess around in. trying to hear all the dialog without spooking the councleors is actually somewhat difficult on the later missions.
