alright, after a while of playing through this game and finishing the ending episode a few times I've finally decided to give this an actual review.

First off: if you're expecting a game that actually takes your choices into account, you might as well go and replay season one. The choices don't really matter in general, even the disposition of characters doesn't change except for a few throwaway lines. You could be absolutely horrible to a character but they'll still treat you like their best buddy next episode, regardless. Most of the things you say have no impact, and if a character asks you to do something and you say you'd rather not you're forced into doing it anyway. Characters you just met unrealistically expect the most out of you, and the fact that you're an 11 year old is completely ignored most of the time.

There is little to no constant characterization. You have no development time for any characters, and no time to sit down and get to know people more. You are unable to form actual bonds with characters like you do in season one, and there is little to no backstory for many of the characters you're around. Character development is practically thrown out the window for the most of this season. An entire character's arc from season 1 is brought back for no reason, replayed exactly the same way as it was for the first game. The character himself is brought back and his death scene is ret-conned even though his character arc was resolved in the first season.

You don't get any kind of closure for any characters. Their character arcs are either small or non-existent in the game and many of them are killed off for shock value and forgotten moments later. Characters you go through the effort of saving either die later in the episode or off screen, pretty much making your effort useless because you don't get any more character development for them, unlike the first season where determinate characters got actual closure and characterization if you save them. Others act out of character enough to get them out of the spotlight.

Older characters treat you as if everything is your responsibility- You're made to do many tasks and when other character's question this it's quickly shot down by the person forcing you to do it. I get it, Clementine is a certified badass and she's supposed to be growing up, but it gets incredibly ridiculous when you're blamed for not being able to save the lives of some characters and so forth. The one character that is your peer and actually treats you your age gets barely any acknowledgement and is treated terribly through the game.

You can tell the staff for the second season didn't much care for most of their new characters, not even bothering to defend them in interviews like first season staffers did. I.E.The creative lead and writer of season one, Sean Vanaman, when talking about a rather disliked character in season one, Lilly, challenged people to think about why she acts that way. The season two staff hardly treat their characters with such respect, calling characters useless and terrible. Killing off and keeping characters is determined by how fans receive them and this gives an unfortunate end to many characters and forced screen time to others.

The game is fast-paced and short, giving you a whopping 9 hours of playtime, and leaves you feeling empty. You push through with no actual goal, plot points picked up and dropped various times throughout the game. The 'big bad' is killed the episode after he's introduced and serves little to no purpose.

I could go on about the things wrong with this game. I pushed through the final episode feeling no emotional attachments to the remaining characters other than Clementine, only finishing to see the resolve of the story. The "multiple endings" are achieved through one simple choice, not determined through how you act in the story, and are over all unsatisfying.

If you insist on playing the game, I'd recommend buying it when it's on sale. I, regretfully, bought it for full price, and if you're as opinionated as I am you're gonna leave feeling cheated.

also you still don't get to hug sarah. 0/10. what a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ disgrace
