Masterpiece

Chinese Paladin aka Sword and Fairy aka PAL is one my favorite games of all time.

I was introduced to this game in 1998 in China. My grandfather came home one day with desktop PC. I had never used a PC before so I was super excited even though I had no idea what it could do. The PC was a Lenovo and was fairly powerful at the time. This PC also came with an "entertainment pack" of games. There were 4 games: Sword and Fairy 98, Richman 4, Rayman, and Need For Speed 3 Hot Pursuit.

Out of the 4 games, Sword and Fairy had the least interesting cover art. It was artistic, but not attention-grabbing like Need For Speed or Richman. After played a few hours of NFS. I decided to give Sword and Fairy a try.

I was instantly drawn to the gameplay, art, dialog, music and story. I played it every chance I got, but I couldn't even get past the zombie underground level. After I immigrated to the US, I met a friend who also played Sword and Fairy and beat it. We would play this game everytime we were together, and he helped me to through the zombie underground area. I still remember the first time I saw the skeleton boss, it was terrifying!

Shortly after that, I beat the game in the next few months. I was in awe of the ending. This game had one of the best stories ever told in the history of RPGs. My only wish is that more people had the chance to experience the emotions this game was able to provide.

I had replayed this game 6-7 times since beating it back in 2001. My Chinese reading skills is regressed, but I can still play this game from beginning to end without reading a single line of dialog, or an item, or an equipment, because they have long been etched into the memories of my childhood.
