I remember playing this game on Armor Games or Max Games or whatever haha. I loved it so much! I still enjoy the game, although I will admit the gameplay loop isn't as fun as I remember, but that is nostalgia. I hope Flipline Studios decides to revisit this game, and they see about updates (bug fixes, new content, workshop/mod support, etc.) because I believe the game definitely is fun and could be even better!

I have a few gripes with this game, however, after playing a couple times, I still think this game is overall good in it's current state. If you recognize my name, you know I am quite critical of these games. I should mention that that comes from a place of passion. I loved the first game so much, that I backed Monster Prom 2 on Kickstarter, and bought a package for it that was more than just getting the base stuff.

I will start with the parts I dislike. Firstly, the day 1 DLC. Unfortunately, this indie studio has taken something from AAA studios that I think most people like, and that is day 1 DLC. This is not something that I see changing with their future games so I will not belabor the point. The other thing I dislike about the game, is it feels like a watered-down version of Monster Camp, somewhat reminding me of Monster Camp when it first released (missing the key features that were supposed to make it unique from Monster Prom).

However, the game is saved by a return to form that I feel the series needed. Originally I was displeased that they were so ready to just do Monster Prom but with a new flavor, for Camp, Con, and likely Reverse (if/when that comes out). But I think they do this well. I will say, Monster Camp, in it's finished form, is my favorite of between Prom, Camp, and Con. (Roadtrip being my overall favorite). But playing Monster Con with a friend showed me that when it comes down to it, the devs can make a very fun experience. The shop is fun and interactive. The jokes landed in ways I didn't always expect. The theme being con, they went all in on being "cringe" without it ever feeling like it was just cheap shots. There is much more I am sure I haven't experienced yet, so this is just from my first two playthroughs. The comics are a neat addition, even if it feels a little detracting at times. The "lunch" mechanic is back from Prom/Camp, while mixing it a little with the hitchhiking dialogues from Roadtrip. I felt this was a good way to reuse assets and ideas, without it feeling too cheap.

In the end, Monster Con does what it intends to do. And honestly, is the most complete a Monster Prom game has felt on release (Roadtrip is up there too!). As a fan of the series, I am pleased with this game, and I look forward to enjoying it more. Even though I mentioned that it feels a bit too similar to Monster Prom, which I dislike, it is undeniable that I enjoyed Monster Prom, so it makes sense I enjoy Monster Con too.

It is what you would likely expect from a Black Jack Roguelike (Roguelite? Idk the difference tbh). It is a lot of fun with a good mix of RNG and strategy coming into play. It has a lot of nods to games it has drawn inspiration from, as well as card games of all types (Slay the Spire, Balatro, Pokemon, Yugioh, MTG, etc.)

Fun game! A unique take on the genre with a lot of fun combinations you can use. The only downside is that there is a bug, no matter how many times I beat the final level, I can't get the achievement for it :(

Pretty fun. Well worth it especially for the current sale ($2.50 for standard, $4.00 for deluxe). If you have the normal version, you can remove the game from your account (google how for details ,not just hide from library) and then buy the deluxe edition which comes with the season pass/dlc.

So aside from the usual "this is a greedy cash grab and is just overwatch 1 but slightly different things" (as well as the horrible system for unlocking heroes), I will say the spirit of the game mostly lives on.

Outside of gameplay, I want to say just how horrible Blizzard is. Because I have had a Blizzard account for a LONG time. But I hadn't used it in years. When attempting to connect it to my steam, I realized I didn't have my password saved. No problem surely, Blizzard has enough money to re-release the same exact game, surely they have enough to have a good system for account recovery, right? Right? Right? No.

If you forget your password you're basically ♥♥♥♥♥♥. It told me to go to the authentication app which I still had. Well that app wouldn't let me see the code unless I logged in. So I tried to log in through the app and click "forgot password" the app literally opens itself again telling you to use the code that you can't access to get the code that you need to access the code. If you have your username, email, and phone number, that's not enough for them to send a simple password reset link. Luckily, I had the last resort code registered to my account still saved. Crisis averted, right? No.

The app displayed an error upon entering my code, telling me to check and make sure it was correct. I double, triple, and quadruple checked, still the same error. So I look up online, how to recover my account. Contact customer support. Great, a lengthy process with someone who doesn't care if I get my account back or not. Luckily I didn't have to go through that process. Why? Because in order to file a customer support ticket, I have to sign into my Blizzard account.

I hope this story has brought you some laughter, maybe a smile, or a sense of satisfaction knowing a company going for greed is biting them in the ass. At the end of the day, it is Overwatch 2, a game I give absolutely 0 ♥♥♥♥♥ about, so I am not too annoyed that I can't get my account. If you made it this far, congrats! Have a smiley face, and good luck in your future endeavors! :)
