A simple and well made roguelite with a mini village cult-building sim and pretty fun graphics. The ironic contrast between cutesy art against a backdrop of evil gods and eldritch abominations is kinda funny too.

The combat mechanics are pretty simple, which I appreciated (no calculations needed!). Every upgrade is just does "more damage", even things like attack speed are only modified by per-run buffs along the way (Tarot Cards). Different weapons have different movesets, pretty standard.

The sim/management part is also not too deep, so you don't have to worry too much about everything going to hell while you're fighting away. The devs also included a friendly mode where you can stop time during crusades just to address that, which I felt made the game really accessible to people who wouldn't appreciate micromanaging that.

Overall it's pretty fun without requiring a lot of commitment.

For the same price, I feel like Valheim is a better game in almost all areas. Combat, exploration, resource management, inventory management, and crafting.

Tribes is certainly more colourful, and has a better leveling / RPG-like system, with the classes. It's also not as tedious to stay alive. Valheim is a lot more punishing.

Overall, it's a different appeal, and definitely a better fit for more casual players.

The idea is pretty interesting, and it's quite unique as a game, but I didn't like its repetitive nature, and some of the features are behind upgrade walls and trees, making it frustrating to do things like build stuff, attack, etc.

It's a pretty steep learning curve. With little to guide you on survival, it's quite tough just to stay alive for 1 whole day at the start. I dropped the game when I first started. But with a few tries, and learning from some mistakes, it got a lot better.

One of the big selling points for me, also, is that it isn't crazy dark at nightfall. Yes, it's darker, but the moonlight is often bright enough for you to move around, so you're not totally screwed in the wee hours.

Would not recommend if you don't wanna spend a few hours just getting the hang of the game mechanic. Would recommend for a pretty decent survival game with an actual story that isn't too creepy (like the Forest).

I was recommended this game with "Subnautica in space".
While it has similarities, it definitely falls short of the mark. Subnautica has a lot more freedom of exploration. Here, it looks like it might be similar, due to being in space and all, but due to the limitations, it's actually kind of linear.

And like others said, there's quite a bit of backtracking and all that.

Way too addictive.

This game is polished in the areas that count: moving around feels good, exploration is fairly interesting, and building stuff is fun. At the same time, it doesn't require any crazy amounts of micro management to make sure your system is going well. You can go at your own pace.

Way, way too addictive.

It certainly lacks polish in many areas, however, it's an interesting story, and the gameplay is still pretty fun.

I would not get it at full price, but as of today (Jul 2022), many gamebreaking bugs have been fixed, and I do think it's worth playing.

Note that some achievements are still bugged (gigs at Santo Domingo), so achievement hunters should google the rarer achievements to see if it's doable.

Retains a lot of what made the original Subnautica fun, while expanding on what it lacked. Exploration is fun both underwater and on land, and this installment features some QOL improvements without taking away from the challenge.

Currently enjoying it a lot

Updated review ever since I got the chance to play multiplayer:
It's pretty fun. Having more experienced players run you through some things and how stuff works (like shelters or whatever) makes the experience a lot more enjoyable.

Not fun solo. Combat is too clunky, too little guidance. I won't ask for handholding, but having to figure everything out with nary a hint becomes a chore very quickly.
