TL;DR: 10/10. Play it.

First off: I have both The Witcher and The Witcher 2: AoK in my Steam Library and didn’t play much of these two. The first Witcher game made me cringe. Apparently it’s a very good RPG but the combat system kept me from really getting into it. It hurts. I started the second Witcher game and have barely 2 hours on it. I never came around to keep playing it because I was just so bored.

This made me wonder if I should even try The Witcher 3: WH and to be honest I’m glad I did, even though I got it cheap in a sale a few months later. I had friends try it, one of them (not a fan of open world) had fps issues and quit but said he would’ve played it if the lag wouldn’t be that bad. The other one was fascinated right from the start. My options were between Fallout 4 and TW3:WH.

So I grabbed the game in a sale and to be honest the first few hours were a bit of a pain. I had trouble to get into the game, I wasn’t really hooked right from the start. But once I got out of the small first area and was able to bring havoc to Velen, Novigrad and Skellige I was bound to be the best Geralt of Rivia I could be! And to be fair, Geralt is sexy af and nice on the lady eyes. ;)
The Map is huge. By huge I mean overwhelming sometimes. There were moments where I had 80+ “?” on my map and just didn’t know what to do. But that’s the beauty of open world. Only thing I have to say here is that you run into enemies that have a higher level. There were often times where I, the level 8 Geralt, ran into level 22 monsters and either got one shotted or was able to run away. Nonetheless it’s fun to explore the map while the sun shines and puts the fields in a magnificent light.

The quests are split up in Treasure Hunts, Contracts, Side Quests and Main Quests. Beware though: You can fail quests. Treasure Hunts allow you to scavenge the Map for Witcher Gear of certain Schools (Cat, Wolf, Bear and Griffin). All have different attributes to the gear and allow for a different approach of play style. Contracts are your typical Hunting Quests. Slay a Beast and you’ll get money.

Some quests are tedious, long and just boring. There were times where I actually skipped the dialogue because I just didn’t care but there are also quests where I just couldn’t hold back a laugh. Apart from the Main Quests (which is just gripping and fantastic) the Side quests offer a wonderful view on the different parts of land, people and situations going on in the war times of the land. Sometimes you have to be quick on your feet and make decisions that will influence the story. A very nice touch.
At some point you cross the point with a Baron in Velen, part of the main Story. You have the chance to bury his second child and make it appear as a spectral ghost baby. DO IT!
You also have the chance to take part in Horse races, Brawling and Gwent. Gwent is a type of card game which is kind of comparable to Hearthstone. Alone Gwent is offering a huge amount of hours in the game.

While following the Main Quests you have the chance to play as Ciri and revisit her side of the story. I absolutely love this idea of the game. Geralt has a great back but sometimes you need to see something else.

The world itself is beautiful, so much attention to detail it’s crazy. I loved the Velen/Novigrad area. I was planning to finish everything there before going to Skellige but I couldn’t hold back my contentment. I instantly regretted my decision, wasn’t too fond of Skellige in the first place but then it just reminded me of TESV: Skyrim. I still love Skyrim to this day and I’m certainly happy that TW3: WH has a northern aspect to the game. Even though it’s a lot of water, diving and isles (ugh!).

Some negative things I encountered include Roach. What a stupid horse. Since I’m used to a Skyrim horse, which can basically climb to the throat of the world backwards, Roach just leaves me hanging because he’s scared of a little fence. It’s frustrating that he stops walking/running because you turn a corner too sharp or walk against something. I’ve learned to take a break from the game at that point and just continue a few hours later or the next day. ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ Roach (even horses need a break I guess)!
Apart from that I also had some sort of glitches; I couldn’t Canter/Gallop after a certain Quest or cut scene. But this was easily resolved with a quick restart of the game, so nothing major. Great time to get something to drink or take a pee break.

All in all The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt earned its title as Game of the Year. I have never played such a wonderful RPG. The attention to detail in the world, during quests or for characters is astounding. There are enough monster to slay in different ways, all of them need another approach to kill. The scenery is ridiculously beautiful doesn’t matter if it’s sunny, snowing, raining or cloudy. While it might be repetitive at times you are able to switch to another objective you can conquer. This is what I was looking for after Skyrim. I’m glad I picked Geralt in the end. Who doesn’t love to slay puss with two swords on your back and a (sometimes idiotic) horse. I can only advise to play it if you haven’t, it’s def. worth your time.

P.S. Roach is stupid.

without my anger management issues, this game would've been a lot better.

10/10 would murder eets again.
