I loved this game, the story is fun and the mechanics are quite satisfying and enjoyable. The story is about 25-30 hours if you take it easy, and afterwards you have the ability to "free play". For some people this will be a one-and-done and for others it will be a game they put many dozens of hours into. I enjoy the satisfaction of salvaging a ship completely. If you are a perfectionist this game might be stressful, but if you are able to chill, its worth it.

EDIT 2024-12-16:

STILL AMAZING AS EVER

There have been some ups and downs over the last few months with balancing but everyone who's ever been a part of a live service knows that there are some growing pains. It seems like the developers had a "hardcore" and "slower" gameplay loop in mind for the game and that clashed with what made everyone love it so much (being a power fantasy simulator). They have changed gears and it feels like they went all in on the fun destruction and carnage. After 650 hours this is still my #1 game and I can't see myself stopping ever.

Every day there are different planets to play on, which can sometimes suck if your favorite biome isnt available, but theres typically enough variety to keep it from becoming stale or having the feeling being stuck playing on a map that isnt fun.

Bugs are fun for when you want to be a killing machine, bots are fun for when you want to have a sci-fi warfare experience. The illuminate just released and they are by far the most entertaining to play.

Based on the last 8 months of support for the game by the developers I can safely say the future of HD2 is very bright and I wholeheartedly recommend this game to everyone!

OG Review:

Insanely addictive,

The difficulty levels provide a huge variety of vibes, from chill bug hunting to insane epic action movies with sacrifice and awesome moments. Its amazing. It reminds me of playing Halo CE as a kid, all the shenanigans that occur.

Each time you play its a completely different experience. The live service aspect is justified, the core storyline is the ongoing galactic war, which is what the "live service" provides. It hardly feels like one though if you are used to destiny or other games as a service.

I have multiplayer anxiety, but that doesnt stop me from seriously enjoying this game. DO RECOMMEND

The game is so good I've bought it several times on different systems. Very addicting and while it's actually super complicated in terms of the amount of things to do/people to talk to, the game never pressures you to do it. You won't miss anyone's birthday and not be able to go back. You can spend days in game grinding resources and then come back to NPC quests and it'll be like nothing's changed. I have about 250 hours on the switch and love playing in the evening to chill out.

Played it non stop from 2015 to late 2017 on a single character. It took me 140 hours to complete all 3 main stories and MANY side quests. I didn't rush but I didn't lollygag either.

I've played it off and on since then, but recently restarted it after season 2 of Netflix. I am reminded of the absolutely amazing writing, story pacing, and character development. It's absolutely in the top 5 games of my entire life.

They have fixed most if not all of the issues I had at the initial launch of the game. Additionally, mods add a TON of value

I originally played this on the PS4, so here I've really just played the online. It's pretty fun even with the occasional griefer. Hunting and fishing are really relaxing and there seems to be a ton of missions and activities to do

Very addictive, every time you play you will have a new story that emerges from the mechanics of the game.

Destiny has sucked me in for about 2000 hours in D1, 1000 in D2 before steam, and now another 44. Heres to another 1000
