Honestly it just doesn't feel very good to play right now. The melee is very unsatisfying and the guns all feel super weak. I'm going to keep playing a bit more to see if maybe there's just something I am missing.

Quick edit: I am being told that the campaign feels way worse than the side co-op missions do so maybe that's the issue.

Enlist now and help the Helldivers spread managed democracy throughout the galaxy.

This game is in a significantly better state now than when it originally released almost a year ago. Most of the missing features, such as crafting and clearer item stats, have been added, bugs squashed, and the core gameplay still feels great. The classes, weapons, and enemies have all received plenty of balance passes which has left it all feeling pretty reasonable with some minor exceptions at the highest difficulty levels, though it is still fun in those cases.

The item acquisition process is pretty bad since it's all just gambling, hoping that you get something usable which you can then fix up with the mediocre crafting system.

It's a lot of fun but this game is definitely not finished. I would suggest waiting a few months to a year before picking it up as hopefully most of the missing features will be complete and many of the bugs fixed by then.

If you're into this sort of game then you'll probably completely lose track of time if you play Factorio.
