No Man's Sky Review.
After 12 hours of playtime.

After trying it at first, I was a little skeptical because of all the negative reviews on the game. I myself had some performance issues but the bugs (to do with performance) have been flushed down the toilet after doing some tweaking.

The game doesn't deserve the negative attention it is currently getting, the game is meant to be relaxed and slow paced, you can try do whatever you want but the game will still be the same. I'm really enjoying my time in the game, not sure about other people though.

Pros.
  • Massive world to explore. (Insert 18 quintillion meme here).
  • Nothing will ever be the same, ever.
  • Mining isn't boring, it's pretty fun farming for those pesky resources.
  • Knowing that what you are doing is not scripted, and you are free to do whatever you want.

Cons.
  • Inventories and crafting could use a stronger starting tutorial than what you are given.
  • Having to go through menus every time to recharge a weapon gets tedious after a while. (Make a button like the tilde key to instantly charge up your mining beam or whatnot).
  • Not being able to cancel a landing is probably the most annoying thing that can happen. I press E a lot accidentally, so I end up wasting the 25% of fuel on the take-off thrusters.
  • Not being able to place waypoints while on the world is annoying, I can see why you haven't though as you can explore the world without exploring it using the map. (A fog of war or something similar would suffice here though).

Some performance tweaks you can use to improve the game;

Turn V-Sync off (ingame or through the settings as described below).
Turn G-Sync off (requires you to go into NMS directory and go through Binaries > Settings > TKGRAPHICSETTINGS.XHTML, find G-Sync and change it from 'true' to 'false'). I suggest opening it with Notepad++ so everything is formatted corectly.
Proceed to go ingame and if you havent noticed anything different experiment with the frame cap a little between 90 FPS, 110 FPS and MAX. 110 worked for me here and I havent dipped below 60 for the last 11 hours of playing.
Once everything is tweaked and you're getting maximum performance, enjoy the game!

My specs, simplified:

CPU: i7 4770k @ 3.50GHz (Not OC).
GPU: EVGA 780Ti 3gb (stock).
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 8gb RAM DDR3-1600.

Game is installed on a WD Caviar Black running at 7200 RPM.
