Not quite as madcap as Saints Row 3, but pretty amusing never the less and there's a fair amount of fun to be had in Stillwater. The story is pretty well done. Albeit the graphics are rather dated now, the amount of character customization is extremely impressive. In fact much better than SR3 in truth.

On the downside the game is extremely crashy. Save between every mission/event and be careful getting into cars as I found that often was a point where crashes happened (I think it's to do with too fast a transition between locatons and then entering a car). There are patches for the game. I recommend: -

I found adjusting the game speed down to 0.7 from 1.0 worked great for me as the default is too speedy

Gentlemen of the row has some good aspects to it.

If you enjoyed SR3 and haven't played it then I'd say it's well worth a pop.

Pretty much flawless. Looks fantastic (even on my modest GPU). Game play is well balanced. The character movement/animation is extremely polished and the bow is just awesome to use. Plenty of unexpected moments in the narrative (although there's a predictability to the plot) . Loads of exploration within each zone and lots of doohickeys to find. More of an action adventure than a traditional tomb raider game, however it's incredibly well done and you feel yourself drawn on to the next challenge. Start to finish for me at least was a good 16 hours or so and I'm certainly inclined to go back in and 100% the single player stuff. Highly recommended as a solid gaming experience.

Sets a new benchmark for engaging narrative that other developers really need to aim for. My GoTY for 2012 in that regard. Playwise I recommend M&K as there are the odd action sequences that are a tad problematic using a controller, and at the time of writing there an annoying bug with respect to saved files where in you need to copy a preference file from steam to my documents so the game can see your saved files (don't worry..they're not gone). However tech issues aside it's a must play experience. I recommend not trying to maarathon it though, as it's pretty raw at times. Also expect to get dust in your eye at times.

It's kind of hard to try and encapsulate the profound madness that is Dark Souls, but I'd summarize it as a heady combination of ICO, planescape torment & fightclub. If that sounds appealing, possibly intriguing then this might well be the game for you. You die. You learn. You dust yourself off and you improve until what initially seems insurmmountable is conquered with ease.

A very pleasant surprise. Comparisons with GTA are inevitable however Sleepy Dawgs proves to deliver a much more cohesive gameplay and narative experience than Rockstars most recent effort. The storyline of undercover cop is fairly engaging albeit certain storyline characters are painted with a very broad brush. The hand to hand combat can be relatively challenging until you've gotten some experience and special moves under your belt. It's worth exploring the island of Hong Kong to find a few elusive shrines to increae your health as well as consume energy drinks, eat food & get the occasional massage (when you can afford it) to give you temporary combat boosts. The gun combat is a little flimsy, but it's functional and really isn't a large part of the game Vs the hand to hand. If you enjoy open world gaming then I'd say this is a must.

Stunning looking game with a decent vibe to it. The combat model is pretty impressive (shooting from prone is particularly well done) , but does require a bit of getting used to it. I recommend doing a chapter or two dry run initially so you get used to using the bullet time mechanic and when to instigate it. Story doesn't really contain a huge amount of surprises to be honest, though the signposting isn't as egregious as in GTA IV, and overall the writing is as hard boiled as one would expect from a Max Payne game.

The game suffers from a couple of difficulty spikes in places, and the body count does get a tad ridiculous at times (New York could've done with a lot less targets overall I feel), however it is an action shooter so overboard numbers is to be expected. I’ve not played the MP so I can’t comment on that, however if you’re looking for something shooty to keep you occupied I’d give a thumbs up.

Quite possibly one of the most unrelentingly dark games I can recall ever playing. The combat is very challenging and a little bit unforgiving for a 3rd person shooter (cover is a necessity, not an option). In fact I'd recommend playing it on easy in that regard (normal can be a bit too much of a slog), however it's made up for by the intriguing storyline, atmospheric setting, top notch voice work and general aesthetic. It might not be quite punching the high notes of a full on AAA title, but it’s pretty solid and if you’re looking for something is a little different worth looking at. Also wait through the credit sequence. Firm thumbs up.

Alpha Protocol rewards commitment. The mechanics aren't perfect (the hacking is frustrating initially), but the storyline is well done and the conversation system treats you like an adult. Well worth playing if you are looking for an alternative to the Mass Effect or Oblivions.
