Got this during a Steam sale, had no idea it was only parts 1 and 2 and not the full game.. It was OK, but I don't think I'll bother getting the rest. Selling your game in parts - they're *far* too short to call them "chapters", btw - is, imho, taking the mick somewhat. What I saw was decent, but the amount charged for the full game is far too much. This is a small 2-man indie project asking for the same amount as a AAA game which took thousands of employees to make!

Ori: Definitive - 10/10. I don't give 10s very often - hardly ever.

But as I sit here listening to Ori's spectacular soundtrack, I'm reminded of all the ways that Ori succeeds, captivates, and warms the heart.

The gameplay is 1st class. I'm discovering that Metroidvanias are among my favourite games, and this is a shining example of the genre. It manages to keep adding new, genuinely useful and interesting abilities throughout. There is honestly never a dull moment, and the game manages to always leave you wanting more.

The soundtrack... exceptional. Truly beautiful. I cried at several points. But at oether times I was pumped up, scared, excited... the power of a good soundtrack is that it pulls out emotion, and this soundtrack battered me senseless (in a good way!) But listen to it as you play the game before look it up on YouTube. Great game soundtracks deserve to be remembered alongside the gaming moments in which you discovered them.

The story is quite thin on the ground, and a little depressing, revolving as it does around concepts of loss, lonliness and isloation. There is some dialogue at various parts of the game, but this isn't MGS :) The gameplay and the soundtrack here are paramount.

Do youself a favour. Buy this game. Even if you don't think it's for you - pick it up in a Steam sale. You can thank me later.

Environmental Station Alpha - 7/10

First half of the game - 9/10
Second half - 4/10 (maximum frustration)

The dev made a fantastic Metroidvania game, then couldn't resist adding more "content" after the game was done. Unfortunately this content muddles the game and somewhat spoils it for new players, since it was primarily intended for those who had completed it already.

A complete lack of information as to what you're supposed to do in the 2nd half also leads to frustration and, eventually, looking it up online. The first half is, by contrast, intuitive and fun.

A game to spend 10-15 hours on, see the first (bad) ending, then move on. The "good" endings aren't worth the frustration and work it takes to get them.

There is no saving. You always start from level 1-1. It's so difficult you die every 30 seconds. You make it past level 1-1 and then level 1-2 is pitch black so you can't see anything. Because you take too long (you can't see) the game spawns an invincible ghost to kill you. Back to 1-1.

Also your only weapon is a very, very short range Indi Jones whip. But the collision detection is awful, and I've often been hit by a creature that I've successfully killed with the whip, because they seem to stay alive a fraction of a second after you hit them, and you have to stand next to them to hit them.

Nope. Gaming has moved on from this kind of nonsense. Masochists only need apply here.

Brilliant little puzzle game. Five different themed areas with dozens of puzzles per area, which add up to several hours of addicting fun. Shuggy is cute as hell too :)

Apart from one or two levels you can take your time to think things through, or use trial and error (my normal choice!). Only a couple levels require fast reactions/ fast input, and these are optional.

Well worth the few pennies I paid for it in some sale or other. Highly recommended.

EverQuest --was-- the best MMO that I ever experienced. What people should understand is that EverQuest of old does not exist. There are emulated servers like P1999 that try to recreate the original EQ experience - that alone should tell you how much the current EQ has changed from its inception.

Today, the problems of top-heavy population are very real, and catastrophic for enjoyment of the game. 99% of zones and content are ghost towns, completely unused. 99% of quests and items are obsolete. The game now gives you equipment in "starter packs" that is better than anything you can quest for or loot in the early game. A bad solution to a real problem (no new players), which renders all content except the last couple expansions worthless. 1-75 content is just there to grind levels these days. Maybe even 1-90. If you need gear better than the game just gives you, you won't want to hunt for it. Instead, you'll want to hit the Auction House, which is full to bursting of better gear than you could ever loot for dirt cheap prices.

Agreed that this is not an MMO for new players. Frankly it's not even an MMO for many of us vets, who were around at the beginning. There are still some people playing - three or four chars at a time - but what keeps them going is often the amount they've already invested in the game. Splitting from characters you've invested literally years of your life into is not easy. But few will straight-up tell you that they enjoy the game as much as they ever did.

By all means, give it a try. It's free after all. But don't expect the legendary MMO you might have heard people talk about. That game no longer exists.

Metal Dead - 4/10

Point and click adventure. Bought because people said it was funny. For me, it is not.

There is no pause, and if the phone rings you will miss conversations, as they happen without the player needing to advance them. Inexcusable, really.

Puzzle solutions were immediately obvious, barring the very last one, which was not only contrived but also gave you a game over if you didn't solve it in 20 seconds (a real kick in the nuts).

Would not recommend. "Time Gentlement, Please!" is a much, much better example of a funny point and click.

Fantastic addition to the MGS universe. Bear in mind, however, that I like Raiden - MGS2 was the first MGS game I played, so for me Raiden is up there with Snake.

As for the game, it's pure action, over the top, larger than life, ultra strong cyborgs vs other cyborgs and various killing machines. It's hack, slash, slice, kick, and a bit of QTE thrown in as well (but the QTE is done very well and manages to enhance your enjoyment). It's more than a button masher - although you can beat the game on Normal with only a little thought - but by using your skillset properly you will make everything much easier (and more stylish!).

Well worth the £14 I paid for it, and still good value at £20.

Bought this thinking it would have the old-school Sonic mechanics. It doesn't. It has the "lock-on" system from modern Sonic.

Another thing - Sonic has no sideways momentum in this. Run up to a pit and jump, and stop pressing in a direction. Sonic stops mid-air and falls in the pit.

Why people say this would appeal to old-school Sonic fans is anyone's guess. If you still think as I do that Sonic 2 is pretty close to being a perfect game, stay the heck away from this.

Rock-hard platformer, but great fun with it. Soundtrack is also very, very good, and fits the game perfectly.

Mechanics are interesting as you can't jump, but have a grapple arm instead, so you can swing around Tarzan style.

It really is bloomin' hard tho :p
