After playing this game, I realized that I'm extremely biased towards the previous civ games. I originally loaded up this game, played for 12 minutes, and refunded.

I bought the game on sale recently to try it again, and I can say with complete confidence that this is my favorite civ game. They really captured the essence of struggling out of the ruins to become the victor. That said, this game is FAR from perfect. It's pretty buggy sometimes, unfair as all hell, and you WILL get your ass kicked by the AI, but it's still the best civ game I've ever played.
