Where to start. I'm disappointed that I've spent the $70 or whatever I spent on this as in the current state, I wouldn't even buy it for $10. If you're a casual player that's brand new I guess you might enjoy it. Having played since 2019, 2020 was what I felt like a huge step for the franchise. They managed to take 3 steps back with 2021. Anybody that plays this game consistently or enjoy the various leagues that run have started to step away from this game because of the various bugs and issues with it. The handling model feels clunky and all around bad. Assists are insanely good and start to become more of an advantage to you. Online lobbies are filled with people that don't understand F1 or know how to drive an F1 car and someone wanting to genuinely improve for the racing aspect are few and far between, and thanks to the new "feature" of not being able to kick multiple people without at least 30 seconds in between kicks ultimately means that dirty drivers are just able to roam around and ruin the experience for the good drivers. The cars tend to be far to unpredictable and you can't enjoy racing on the edge where the cars tend to be the best. You can take the same line lap after lap, but after a few laps, you'll find yourself spinning out for no reason.

The connection issues in this game far surpass that of recent years where it's almost every other race, you are being forced to close the game because someone isn't connecting to the lobby and just holding it up in an infinite loading screen. Those that manage to connect with a poor connection ultimately end up glitching all over the place and you have no clue where that car is going to end up, or worse, take you out simply because the connection forces them inside your car and you get launched out of control.

Although Breaking Point was a nice feature this year, it doesn't take very long to complete and your actions don't really add into the story in any way whatsoever. The penalty system is incredibly broken where you can run wide for just long enough on a lot of corners and avoid a warning or penalty, or vice versa, you can barely go off track and enjoy the lovely bug of multiple warnings and receive a penalty immediately. Also, if you get hit early into the first few corners, even if not your fault, you will get penalized while most times, the driver that initiates the contact will receive nothing at all.

Tracks really haven't changed since previous years. Most circuits have wrong curbing and with the handling model currently, if you touch any raised curb with no caution, you get sent into an uncontrollable spin. The inconsistency and unpredictable nature of the cars tend to make a driver lose confidence in pushing the car at any capacity. It's extremely hard to catch the car if you start to spin, with it being difficult to even feel the car start to get loose.

Portimao was a good addition and I've enjoyed the track while playing with friends and clean drivers, however the current state of the multiplayer system is horrid and you'll find yourself sitting at a loading screen more than you race. I may revisit this review at a later date when the new handling model comes out if the game gets any better, but in the current state I just can't recommend this game to anybody unless you receive it for free. If you want a better driving experience, you're much better off getting the previous installment or enjoy some other racing games.
