TL;DR
Visually stunning puzzle game with interesting mechanics and a few challenging puzzles even if the majority aren't that tough. Quite a short game however so unless you can justify £20 for about 5 hours of game buy on sale. 7.5/10

Viewfinder is a recently released puzzle game and one that has very quickly become one of my favourites due to it’s interesting use of perspectives and varied art styles. And that is honestly one of the main draws to the game. It's a visually stunning game which plays with many filters, art styles and perspective shifts in a similar way to games such as Superliminal.

For example, you can use one of the games mechanics to walk through a portal to a graphite style filtered version of the world that looks like you've just walked on to the Take On Me music video or place a child's drawing and walk through it to solve the puzzle and continue to the next level.

Speaking of mechanics there are a wide variety of them, such as placing and taking photos, the aforementioned portals and even aligning pieces of a photo to make a whole one. Some of these mechanics actually tie in to the games story and they all come together really well in the games finale, as the game tests you on all that you have learnt thus far.

The games story probably is the weakest point of the game but is still pretty good. The basic premise is that you are walking through an old research simulation to try and uncover mysteries about the research done within the simulation. You can find various logs and notes within each level that add to this story and really flesh things out but it certainly isn't the main draw of the game. Though I will say the ending definitely got me a little emotional (not that that's very hard)

Overall I really enjoyed the game even if I thought some of the levels were a bit easy, especially as you got to the end of a chapter and truly understood the mechanic introduced in that chapter. The game's visual style and requirement of a interesting and often unused set of problem solving skills definitely made the game interesting enough for me to finish.

The game is quite short however so if you're someone who feels they need quantity over quality, or just can't justify £20 for a game you can beat in about 5 hours, buy on a sale.
