Early Access Review
The best way to describe this game for me: it's the kind of game where you keep telling yourself "Just 10 more minutes," then another, then another, and before you know it, it's 2:00am and you have to rip yourself away to force yourself to go to bed for work in the morning. I can't even remember when a game did this to me last. You'll find yourself yearning to play when you can't, thinking about Pal strategies, or how to manage your base and resources. You'll be checking out or sharing funny memes about your favorite Pal, posting on forums, watching videos on YouTube about it. To put it simply, it's a good time and just fun for everyone. Pokemon-lovers, those unfamiliar with monster catching games, survival and crafting game fans, and even fans of classic third person action and open world exploration. I typically hate crafting and survival games, but this game has captured me. I've only played 24 hours so far, and I have EASILY got my money's worth at $27.

Is it perfect? No, of course not, but it is in early access. It still feels very far along and polished for the most part and the game that is here is very playable. It's such a breath of fresh air from the typical, AAA, focus-group-tested-to-death, paint by numbers, microtransaction-filled garbage many publishers put out these days. SEGA is charging for NEW GAME+ in the newest Yakuza game for crying out loud! This game has a bright future and I'm glad I supported it.

I'm so excited for the future of the game, too, as the devs appear to be supporting it as best they can, and I am so happy for them to have such a massive success. Buy it and try it! You won't regret it. You'll be supporting the little guy, sticking a finger in the eye of the pearl-clutching losers on X and other social media who are making stuff up about AI usage and copyright infringement, getting a great value from it, sending a message to Nintendo and the Pokemon Company about innovation, and, most importantly, you will have a blast. Isn't that what games are supposed to be about?
