The game runs better and has less bugs than in did when I played it back in 2016-2017, yet it's somehow less enjoyable. It runs smoother, but is clunkier in ways I cant reconcile. Let me try to explain:

Need to craft and use rags because you're bleeding?
2017: Drag the knife in your inventory to the t shirt in your inventory, hit combine, then right click the rags and hit use.
2022: Drag shirt from inventory to hands, wait for animation to play. Drag knife in inventory to t shirt in hands, hit combine, wait for animation to play. Pick rags up off the ground, drag them from inventory to hands, close inventory, hold down left click to use rags.

Eating food and water has similar issues.

Another issue is the Zombies, their pathfinding went from hilarious to omnipotent. They know exactly where you are, and when doors on other sides of buildings are open, and will immediately run to them to get to you.

I cant believe they managed to make the game less enjoyable than it was back when I was playing at 35fps and dying from glitching through floors and breaking legs from 2ft drops lol. The loot distribution/rate also seems worse, but I didn't play enough to get a real feel for it.

I like the idea of a PVP survival game that doesn't require dozens of hours of resource gathering and base building, but DayZ is hard pass.

This game doesn't have real coop, you basically just join your friend's world as a minion that helps them kill stuff, but you cant do anything else like managing the community or even just leaving their immediate vicinity.

It still looks fun though, so if you aren't looking for a good coop experience feel free to buy it.

Edit: They added another season pass lmao, the first season pass was awful so I'm not buying another season pass. This game is just a milker now.

The combat is the best in the franchise, enemies aren't bullet sponges like in Borderlands 2 and they've added several new weapon types as well as multiple action skills for each vault hunter. Now on to why I kind of hate this game....

The villains seemingly have no reason for being bad, other than "hurr we're arrogant twitch streamerz we need more power or something"(they make Handsome Jack look like a 10/10 10,000 IQ villain in comparison). Borderlands characters have never been bastions of depth, but this time around they all fall flat and feel like they're there solely to give you something to do and make awful jokes only 12 year olds, redditors, and Twitch zombies can laugh at.

FIRE THE WRITERS:
The story is just awful. No spoilers, but the story has no weight to it to. When major characters died my friends and I found ourselves laughing at how ridiculous or asinine it was. When characters called us on the radio or did that nasty face cam thing we found ourselves frequently saying things like: "get the f*** off my screen" or: "shut the f*** up r****d".

The cutscenes were supposed to be a selling point, but they're just hilarious. The vault hunters never show in any of them(I did see Meat Thief T posing and floating in a circle in a few of them though lol) and since it's locked to 30fps the animations look like kids play fighting in a bounce house.

The levels are pretty lackluster compared to borderlands 2, but the combat made up for it.

Overall it's a lot of really fun fast paced gameplay.... But then a character will randomly pop up and say something like "SKAG BALLS MY DUDE I NEED A BURGER DELIVERY!!!!" and you'll instantly be reminded the game was written by Redditors.

This game is like a Durian fruit, very tasty but with an awful odor. I'm a gameplay over story kinda guy so I still recommend this game, but the story and characters are truly awful in every aspect.

+Has an Assassin's Creed vibe with the roof running and assassinating enemies
-No multiplayer, 70% of the fun in souls games is playing with friends and PVPing.
-Enemy health system is irregular and punishing for slower paced players.
-No weapon/armor variation, you're using nothing but a katana the entire game.

Game is still good, just not worth more than $30. kinda astonishing they charge a full $60 for this when it's inferior to Bloodborne and every souls game.

I'm going to refund this and wait until it's $20 maybe. In the meantime, time for another dark souls playthrough.

They updated the game years later to add some crap launcher that begs you to make an account lol

Eh I just really wasn't feeling it. Multi-classing is lame. The fact that a big warrior wearing plate armor can start casting fireballs at you completely turns me off. The fact that you can do it yourself is even worse.
Also I strongly dislike the physical/magic armor system. It really just seems like the devs got mad that people were stunning everything in Divinity Original Sin 1 with Aerothurge and Hydrosophist but didn't have enough finesse to come up with a better way to stop it.

I am not a fan anymore, I had problems with Divinity Original Sin Enhanced Edition but still managed to play through it. With this one I'd estimate I'm not even halfway done and after taking a long time to cool down I still have no drive to slog through the rest of it.

I'm happy they changed the name of this game to properly differentiate it from the pile of trash that's coming out later this year. Classic is a very fitting adjective for this game.

I had all of the icons on my desktop neatly organized until this game reset them during the install process. Not only did it ruin the organization of my desktop is has a third party launcher and requires you to make an account.
Normally when a game I download from Steam requires me to make a new account I just uninstall it and move on but this game completely reset my desktop so I'm angry enough to leave a bad review.

August 2023 Update:
Years after writing this review, and basically everything about GTA:Online is worse. Everything is priced to move shark cards and the content they keep releasing is stale and employs an ungodly amount of asset reuse (they'll literally 1:1 copy paste missions from older updates lol). That's not even the worst part though, public lobbies are completely unplayable unless you install illegal third party tools to protect you. Without doing so, cheaters in this game can crash you, teleport you, delete all of your weapons, etc. If you play public lobbies with a vanilla game client, expect to be interrupted by a cheater at least once every 30-90 minutes. There was even a potential RCE exploit last year that they took ~10 days to patch. With Rockstar's poor code quality, who's to say there isn't another potential RCE waiting to be uncovered?

I know it's just a drop in the bucket, but I am not buying GTAVI or any future Rockstar games after seeing the state this one is currently in.

Original review:
Don't buy this game if you're interested solely in GTA:Online. Everything started going downhill in mid 2015 when Take-Two Interactive and R* got a real taste of microtransaction money from the mindless masses.
In the new update(Gun running) instead of simply buying the upgrades to your new vehicles/guns that you want you have to research it, then buy it. That system by itself I wouldn't have a problem with but you cant choose what to research so you'll end up wasting large amounts of time and money researching worthless weapon skins that cost $90,000 instead of the things you actually want. They also added a SmartPhone tier microtransaction system where you can just pay money to instantly complete the current research.

The only reason I still play this game is because I have recieved hundreds of millions of in-game currency from modders and I've been playing GTA:O since it came out in 2013. I already have the time invested and a character built up. If I had to do it all over again and start from scratch I wouldn't.
