This game is awesome. Not because it's graphics are stellar (which they aren't, and that's not the way the developers want the graphics to be), not because it has a great campaign (which it also doesn't as of yet), and not because of the limit on things the player can do (it really is very limited at this stage of development, you light fires, scavenge for food and resources, and if you're lucky enough to find a rifle, might survive a few days).

No, this game is great because of the atmosphere and work that the developers have put into it. When you start into the world, it gives you no instructions, and you have to feel your way about controls to figure it out, and a fair amount of guess and check is to be expected when figuring out how to get different supplies. Soon you realize that you absolutely need to find some sort of tool to gather things, without it, you will certainly die. On your adventures you can find rabbits, deer, and wolves (once again it's in alpha so more wild life is to come I'm sure), you may even see a wolf chase down a deer/rabbit and begin eating it once it has killed it. The wild life in this game is superb, even though they only have three types, the programming for them is awesome, the wolves can actually be seen howling if your timing is correct, and it forces you to wonder where they are just in case you are about to be their next meal. The deer can also be heard making noises akin to those made by elk.

While there isn't much to the game as of yet, the work that the developers have put into it has incredible charm. The comments made by your character, the lonely sound of footsteps on ice/snow/wood accompanied only by the sound of a raging wind around you, incredible views of the sky at dawn/dusk, eery howls and calls made by the only other living things, and the overall sense of solitude in this ice-age-esque world, create one of the best atmospheres possible for this post-apocalyptic survival game, and assuming the developers continue to put quality work into it, it should turn into a great full game in time.

Rust is awesome if you can find the right server or have enough patience to make it through the first few hours of people killing you on sight. It's slow moving at first, but once you get the hang of it, it is a great game.
