I recommend this game, but under a VERY specific condition.

Like most people, I fired the game up with the intent of getting my Batman on. I enjoyed the custscene art style, the music was solid, the script and acting was not horrible. It kept me going through the introductory act.

That reminds me, make sure you play with a controller. The damn thing is so arduous to play otherwise.

Anyway, as I got into the game proper, all my hopes were dashed. "It's just not a good game," I thought, "why am I doing this to myself?" I was doing it because I have a ridiculous back log of games I've never touched that I have vowed to complete. I'm now glad I did.

The specific condition I opened with is this: Play it likes it's an old school platformer but with Batman. Super Mario Batman. Sonic the Batman. Whatever game of that ilk you like, just don't play it like it's Arkham Origins. Once I had that realization, that it's NOT like the big console games and, more importantly, that it WASN'T GOING TO BE, I had a much better time. I even enjoyed it.

Again, it's gotta be something you really just accept as it is. There's a little gem of a game in there that's been bogged down and buried under expectations.

Screaming at your friends has never been so great
