It's a fine game. I cannot give a positive because what is advertised is not included. Co-op and the paywall content (which should not exist) are no longer supported. You can however mod the game quickly to fix such issues. The story is pitifully short, but the alternate game modes are somewhat enjoyable. The new black-and-white system for the goggles AND representation of stealth areas is abysmal. The controls are terribly snappy, while also not working at all. You'll snap to a corner only for it to reveal you because you didn't realize that never using the wall mechanics is actually the only way to play. The story includes dope messages projected on the wall that can be reprojected in any moment to understand your objective. The problem is only that the story is dumb as hell and undermines preceding stories. It's a case of the new director taking not just no interest in Splinter Cell, but a disliking of the previous games. It can be fine if you really like killing people but without any effort necessary.

The game has become much better. The lighting is much less overbright. The audio still needs a massive adjustment to achieve what was accomplished with CS:GO. Arms race has returned, but only with the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ maps (though they have been upgraded fantastically). Lake isn't in play. For competitive, nor is Train, Cache, and Agency. The ranking system remains complete whack retardation. I don't have the time to play every single map multiple times per day to be able to not play with losers (Non-Americans, Valorant players, and the mentally eschewed). The movement system and visuals are fine.

Honestly it's bad. First, the audio is abysmally poor. No war games, no dangerzone, and quite a few classic maps are missing. But they do feel the need to promote their two new maps in their new Valorant mode, with their new Valorant buy system, crushed Valorant lighting, and Valorant skins. It's like CS:GO but no balls and considerably less than half of the actual game content. The movement feels poorly adapted, and the registration is more than lackluster. FPS performance is alright, but other basic graphical issues are quite prevalent. The influx of new players is absolutely obnoxious. It's nice that you can restrict your ping level to a server, yet you cannot do so for the players you intend to have on your team. Likewise, they have yet to implement an actual rank queue (following 10+ years of development). Players don't mind waiting longer for an actual game to fulfill their requirements. Further, 4 queues are still allowed in competition, but not in the Valorant-based voting game-mode (why?). Playing roulette seriously reduces the enjoyment of the game. Cool, the smokes plume and the mollies sound like Minecraft. That was worth throwing away the decade of development on the actually solid previous game? I do not feel so.

First, an addendum: Newgame plus does not work well at all and many bugs can be induced. So I would strongly avoid any guide that indicates you can use it to accomplish anything. Second, even dodging the 2K launcher with startup commands results in me repeatedly needing to verify file integrity to complete cloudsync to play any other Steam game. If I could change my review to negative just for this, I would. But Steam demands I write a whole new review :/.

It's a fine game. While the remaster might not be worth the download (21 GB over 6 GB), it worked fine on my computer and it comes with some behind-the-scenes collectibles. Achievements worked fine, too (though I did avoid familiar bugs). It crashes occasionally due to some poor full screen support, but it's not an issue if you make your own saves. Otherwise, sometimes the audio log review won't play until you back out of the menu. Additionally, there is no quicksaving but I think this is a technical limitation they faced. The combat can be disorienting because it isn't easy to load the plasmids in the desired order without spending much time. And, even then, they sometimes get reorganized during game events. The shooting is a little bit ♥♥♥♥♥♥ because swapping ammo types means you have to reload (slowly). So you'll find yourself reloading every weapon before you engage in a fight against people or machines. Most of the tonics, weapon upgrades, and camera research feel like methods to affect the game particularly to avoid actually playing the game. They don't create any change in the way you need to play or ration, the game just becomes easier. Huge flaw. The hacking is interesting at first but is not remotely challenging, especially with tonics and ice. Players who prefer to leverage the security systems against their enemies will be playing the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ hacking minigame nonstop. The hacking sequence also pauses the game so there is absolutely no pressure to never not hack when it delivers such a necessary advantage. The story is acceptable but not interesting enough to actually consider the content of the audio logs, which, better than System Shock 2, are placed fairly conservatively. The voice acting is dope though very slow. The game is remarkably easy on Hard mode. Further, do not kill Sander Cohen in Fort Frolic. The game gives you no direction here, where it otherwise keeps you very on-track and informed about what you are doing. You literally only miss out on an exploration opportunity, and the full map remains open until the absolute complete, final sequence. One other issue remains is that important bodies can despawn, so don't ♥♥♥♥ up taking the splicer pictures when you first retrieve the camera. Altogether, the game is a massive simplification of the System Shock mechanics and mostly for the better. It also feels to have learned from Deus Ex and Thief. If loot and collectibles were less of a chore to obtain (even as easy as it is now), the experience would be far more succinct and enjoyable. Finally, if you have a functioning brain & body and enjoy games, I recommend setting to Survivor difficulty out the gate and seeing how far you can take it without a Vita-Chamber. There is very little, and sometimes no, need to conserve any ammo, money, ADAM, or hypos throughout the game. You do not need to ration inventory space and choose the optimal guns nor plasmids or tonics for any area. So turn off Vita-Chambers and go in blasting. Great movement, acceptable mapwork, great characters, interesting mob interactions, acceptable story, and enjoyable combat. Despite its flaws, it is one of the best medium-length single-player experiences. And it will likely stay that way.

It is the game that I play. I was surprised to find there are still online servers active most nights. But, I prefer LAN games.
