I really like Nidhogg, but I wish there was more to it. The sword fighting can be intense and I really like the minimalistic, but still expressive, art style. However, with four levels, and only one game type, there's not much to keep the attention.

I'll give the developers props for including some customization options, but they're almost entirely related to the abilities of the characters, and not the game itself. Moreover, some of them are just odd. Baby mode? Where you characters are constantly ducking and crawling around? It's funny, but the novelty wears off really quick.

If there were a way to modify the game modes themselves, I'd be incredibly happy with this game. Right now, it's basically just a race to one side of the level or the other. Kill your opponent and you can progress. You only need to kill them once, and if you're lucky, you can get all the way to the end without any other kills.

I'd like the option to force a new kill each time your opponent respawns. How about certain kinds of kills are required to progress? Maybe a multi-tiered, one-screen arena with a required kill count.

I feel like there are a lot of ways the game could expand, and I hope it does. As it stands, I still recommend the game because it is a lot of fun with a group for a tournament or two. Also, if you're the kind of person who really gets into the nuances of a game, Nidhogg seems to offer a lot of potential depth. I want more, but that doesn't mean I'm unhappy with what I got.
