If Far Cry and DOOM Eternal had a baby

Sub par story. Empty esk world á lá Ubisoft. But the gameplay is fun and cool, it's really FC+DOOM combined.

Buy it at a big discount.

I don't like walls of text so i'll try and condense this as much as i can.

How to start? A question: How in the hell is this game so high rated?? LMAO - So this is the holly grail of the exclusives Sony fans talk about? LOOOL Yeah... its Spiderman, which is cool, and a lot of familiar enemies and friends, on a movie like action adventure story driven game (story is ok - boring at times)

So why is this on like the 90s score on metacritic? What have people been smoking? It is as if the backup backup backup of the backup team from Ubisoft made this. If this game is a 90+ score then what would AC: Odyssey be? A full 100? This game is boring. combat is repetive and very meh. Nostalgia as got to be blinding people, its the only explanation. I loved the Tobey Maguire spidermans, i mean, geez i watched them at the cinema when they came out i was in my teens so i got nostalgia too... but like, no way!

Boooring. Pointless side quests. Combat is "ok". So you'd ask: " pray tell what is good combat for you?" - right? You'd expect i answer Arkham series? Well wrong. My kind of cool combat for characters these crazy are more in the lines of Shadow of War (which btw, better combat, better engine, better AI the list goes on)
I mean, even the MC feels so floaty while running and kicks and punches don't have that "hit" feel. I'm not even gonna mention the QTEs its not worth it lol.

I dunno... i really don't see it. I didn't want to be "that guy" that thumbs down a 95% positive game on steam but damn theres no way... NO WAY LOOOOL. The city is dead, might aswaell not even have NPCs. (for the record i played this max setttings not even DLSS on so before the question pops up, yes, i played this with a 4090 always above 200FPS so don't even LOL). Which reminds me, this engine is surpringly low demanding, but then again there's very little there to demand in the first place. So then you say, but but but its from 2018. So is Shadow of the Tomb Raider. So is AC: Odyssey. So is RDR2. So is Shadow of War. All way better looking and overall better games than this.

I had to say it because this really disapointed me. I mean, im the guy that likes the vanilla Ubisoft experience and this was not even up to par with that LOOL geez. Dayz Gone was aswome. HZD too. GoW18 with its quirks was very good too. But Spiderman is a resounding thumbs down for me. Keep bringing the Sony exclusives and i will keep playing them because i love games. But not even my nerdiness about marvel could feed the void and shallow of an experience this game was.

OVERRATED.

This may well be one of the best games I have played in my life. The ambience. The tension. The lore. The narrative. The gameplay. An absolute masterpiece. Shame for the outdated 60fps cap (please don't even try to justify it). Haven't played the DLC yet, doing a few NG+ first, fine tunning my build, doing some diferent endings and choices etc, there's still so much missable content.

Late for the party but: 10/10

I never played the original, so this review is based on this game alone. That said, well, its awsome. I like it. amazing visuals. Great replayability and fun grind unlocking all the good stuff on the ingame shop, and then get that sweet Inferno S rank run. Its packed with way more action than RE2R, but i don't think thats a bad thing. I did however wished the encounters with Nemesis weren't so scripted and that they'd be more like Mr. X, a constant incognita, so that the adrenaline would be always pumping. But i can see why they didn't do it, i mean, nemesis runs faster than a race car lol and thats so scary in the encounters. I liked the lore a lot too, and somehow it reminded me a lot of the Resident evil 2 movie from Paul W. S. Anderson. And i know this may be heresy to some of the franchise fans but i actually like the 1st and 2nd movies.

Good game: 8/10

I played this remake when it came out, but only did the Leon story. Now that RE4R came out i thought about playing this fully, and i gotta say, this game is pretty close to what we call a "masterpiece". The RT patch is subtle but a nice adition and they got rid of the image noise i remember having in 2019.

Also, and having now played both paths multiple times, i'm not sure wich one is cannon in the eyes of the devs or in the lore itself, but imho, Claire's story is the best one with more depth. But that doesn't mean i don't like Leon's story, i love it really, it's just that Claire's really surprised me and felt more fleshed out if that makes sense.

I have to mention one thing too, the engine. RE Engine, though not the most realistic out there, is without a doubt one of the best engines. I'm not sure how it would fair on an open world, probably not very well, but for this type of game it is one of the best, if not the best. Not everything are roses tho, zombies at a certain distance look like they are being rendered at 15fps.

This game is amazing. I have very few complaints. 9.5/10

I wish there was a neutral option for this one.

1- Amazing gameplay, topping BL2's gameplay with newer mechanics that feel good.

2- Story; Oh man... how can i put this. As a millenial myself i feel embarassed. Why? Because this feels like some millenials with no sense of humor made a quick search on wikipedia as to what GenZ trends were in 2019 and what do they consider to be funny and edgy. Good humor does not get dated imo, and these writers failed to realize that. I wonder when they were all in the room writing this there was not a single soul standing up and saying - hey "bro" the cringe levels are getting too high and this is not funny at all - you simply don't get attached to none of the main characters.

Gameplay is a 9/10
Writing is a 3/10.

This game is a dream come true. I waited 20 years for this. I'm every second of this, the atention to detail is amazing. And sometimes you get the Skyrim vibes. The OST is amazing and pays tribute to John William's with lots of variations from the OG.

I gotta adress the elephant in the room tho: performance is not great. It boggles my mind that they chose to go with Unreal Engine 4 for a game of this magnitude, specially when one of WB's own devs have an amazing engine "Firebird" from Monolith (used in Shadow of War), which these devs could have borrowed if WB wasn't to give monolith the project for what reason may be (maybe because they are doing wonder-woman). My point is, UE4 is dated. It used single threaded performance so the 1% lows are disgusting and all over the place (12900K + 4090). The hardcoded TAA to mask the engine's limits and rough edges is vomit inducing at times.

2nd- Complaint: They should have gone further with this project. NPC colision and interaction specially inside the school. Day and night cicle is there but there is no mandatory curfew and no eating schedule and classes are not times. So it all feels off somehow. They should have gone with an aproach á lá Kingdom Come Deliverance on this imo.

Alas, no game is perfect, maybe the potterhead in me makes turn a blind eye to all the shortcomings in this game, because when at its peak this game really does shine and any fan will have goosebumps. The wasted potential may be mitigated with mods as i already seen some mods on Nexus and there already a mod loader (btw, theres a mod to unlock all PS5 exclusive content but requires a new save to get the mission, but potion works regardless)

And there you go. im sure im missing a lot of stuff, but i recomend this game for all fans, and to non fans who like a RPG lite, story driven game. 9/10

There's no easy way to put this. Although the devs had a good concept, cool world and artwork, this game sucks.
And i could even get over all the shortcomings if it had a fairly satifying ending, but the end is had me like: "Is this it?"

I wish i had good things to say about it but i really don't. Play this if it's free. But is your time free? I kinda want my time back. Just avoid.

Great story telling just like the OG but i expected more from a remake than just a new engine with awsome graphics. Free roam is near impossible in story mode. But for the linear story and gameplay that made the OG Mafia iconic, coupled with eye-candy graphics, this is a must play for fans.
