It's a $40 game so everyone should get it. Lots of content and replay value through the progression, weapon mods, and assignments. Best optimized UE5 game that can run on a potato with GTX 1060. How did I get over 50 hours of playtime in less than 24 hours of release you ask? Time travel!

Aug 18, 2025: Melee hit detection somehow gets worse and worse with each patch thanks to increased server latency where a dead gorefast still hits you despite you killing it mid-air, crawlers are impervious to your melee attacks since they are registered as no longer where you are attacking, and bosses attack you twice just in case their first attack didn't register. Despite this, guns and bullets still feel good and don't suffer from the rollback netcode like melee combat.

Feb 2025: Closed Beta was really fun despite the bugs and glitches. Runs 60+ FPS on high with my Xeon E5-2670 from 2012, EVGA RTX 3080 12GB and Windows 10. It's the most stable Unreal Engine 5 game to date for me, and that's really sad given how many there already are. The most debilitating glitch is negative ammo/not being able to shoot/not being able to heal, but there are work arounds like not switching weapons after reselling and rebuying. Stutters, low frame rate, and slight lag are not a hindrance as hit detection, hit boxes, and rollback net code are good.

Specialist system is fine. I don't have time to cry and worry about a random character with no background like I didn't care in KF2 and KF1. This isn't a game with a deep story and single player campaign so characters don't matter as much. It's about having fun dismembering Zeds, barely surviving, and enjoying the physics and gore. There are no bad perks, just lack of skill and patience to learn how the damage type system and weapons work. Shotguns are fine when used like a precision weapon and overpower sharpershooter damage when heavily modded. Can't be lazy and do only body shots. Like the first two games, you have to level up enough for any perk to feel strong enough but even after a stronger understanding of the damage type system, I was able to solo Hard mode as any level 1 perk giving just the right weapons. It would be nice to be able to change perks and skills during trader time, but you should be buying better weapons on and off perk towards the boss/bosses to warrant not switching to a boss cheesing perk like Medic and Engineer.

Not being able to text chat is weird but it's not necessary as audio queues and outlines dictate where the action will be and tones down the negativity in-game. Just ping the big enemies and everyone knows what to focus on if they can actually pay attention. Still too many players constantly running around like a headless chicken looking for ZEDs, but that's been happening since the beginning of online co-op gaming, and I have been enjoying this as extra challenge of pulling their slack since KF1. Half the players don't know how to use a tool or gadget. Most of them don't understand the damage type system and shoot pellets at the bigger enemies until they run out of ammo. Most Fosters never realized they needed an offperk weapon for the big ZEDs. UI is fine except for ammo and medic bag icons obscuring the compass direction abbreviations. Trader location should always be visible rather being tied to a long press of a key. Hub system is fine as it's a nice way to stay with your party. Shooting range should have damage amount, range, and hit type indicators along with actual ZED cut-outs to help train on hit zones. Current operational budget should be clarified before match is found and while modding weapons to indicate if the weapons will be out of budget. Many of these issues would probably be resolved with the training mode and obstructive pop-ups in-game.

Got to level 30 medic with level 3 precision, Ninja 20, Sharpshooter 10, and Engineer, Commando, and Firebug all 5 within 38 hours of playtime. Can't wait for the full release to figure out more builds and see the refinements since the closed beta. No drastic overall is needed like the crybabies are whining about. Everyone fights, no one quits. Just upgrade your skills, weapons, and cosmetics, buy some warbonds, get in the Hellpod, and spread democracy for rock and stone to the bone for Karl because we're rich.

It's fine for an early access game. Haters can't coherently define any of the bugs. Just your typical invisible walls that are easily avoidable and server lag mostly. Red eyes are too common and too tanky but exploiting the environment like the first game is still possible. Wasn't able to easily find stronger melee weapons in my four hours but that's mitigated by the plentiful ammo and guns from completing objectives. Some objectives are more difficult than others but that just means more teamwork is required.

Dec 1, 2024: Some animation bugs fixed but map exploits, poor hit detection, and imbalanced weapons still remain. The new M7 (XM7 in real life) rifle is terribly under-powered, inaccurate, and unsatisfying. Being that the actual pew pew was only fielded this Spring, probably the developers haven't even had a chance to fire it before putting it into the game. Other the side of the spectrum, the 1911 with .45 ACP is hilariously over-powered with one-hit kills, making the M7 completely useless. Each game since the new update has insane amounts of M7s on the map but ammo was always the problem with low stack count, low availability, and low damage output. This is not a 9mm SMG. It uses intermediary 6.8x51mm that kicks more than 5.56 but isn't as heavy as 7.62. Another plus is zombie health is now the same across all difficulties so learn the exploits I mean learn to play the game and even 10 runners will pose no threat except they respawn constantly so solo play is now impossible unless you got some lanterns during the standard finale or lucked out and received the new variation where you have to complete 3 surrounding objectives that are the prior ones to the control room finale itself, skipping the standard finale.

Aug 15, 2025: New skill reroll and upgrade patch coming Aug 19 along with rebalanced difficulties and zombie spawn rework. Current patch with .22 pistol, invincible zombies in climbing animation, and zombie grab animation from the other side of the map preventing you from grabbing items are all wonderful additions to the game. Maybe we'll get children zombies soon instead of dying from crashes. Maybe I'll have 1000 hours of playtime before that happens.

By playing this game, you have started a chain reaction that could bring about the next apocalypse because this creature is the bringer of death. He will never eat, he will never sleep, and he will never stop. Seriously, there's not much to do: collect gold, pull levers for poo-butt man and beads, take photos of stuff and things, open final room and die, and escape without dying. Oh, possibly also collect artifacts, preferably without dying. It's cool that the maps are procedurally generated and but that can also make it very lame with long hallways of nothing or one single path that forks multiple times. They fixed the funnest glitch where you can displace yourself or others with certain objects and get to places you're not supposed to be so nay. Extremely monotonous and not as fun as other ghost hunting games like Phasmophobia. They need to rework the Medjai's where you have zero chance of escaping. Get this game on sale or if you want to re-enact the 2 Mummy movies with our boy, Brendan Fraser.

Fun time with friends and randoms. Everyone's been really nice so far to new people. Why there are children playing this I can only guess their parents don't care about what they do. Make sure you buy a Strong Flashlight and Thermometer.

Been playing since the beta and still enjoy it once in a while. There have been ups and downs, but the story got really good. Can't wait for PayDay 3!

***11-22-2023 REVIEW UPDATE***

New map, Castle Volter, is fun but not optimized. New 93R starting pistol is a disappointment since it doesn't actually kill and is meant for staggering. Metal Gear 3 Shredder is pretty good and even if that's not the real name, it's what I now call it. New update also allows choosing the weekly for Solo and Multiplayer so that is super great. Sharpshooter still sucks compared to Demo or Support for killing big zeds and trash zeds. Zerker is now much better with 200 hp and 100 hp instant-heal during zed time. Maybe we'll see KF3 in 2024.

***11-23-2022 Review Update***

Christmas Beta introduces 4 new weapons, balance changes to some existing weapons, community map Crash (not the KF1 map), and a Perk Roulette weekly outbreak. HRG Ballistic Bouncer is kind of fun but impractical. HRG Medic Missile is weak and doesn't leave a lingering healing cloud after exploding. ZED MKIII is overpowered and an odd choice for Demo with random rockets. HV Storm Cannon is the best weapon ever made for Sharpshooter. Rewards headshots and still strong on body shots. Sharpshooter is now a practical choice again IF this weapon is used.

Berserker defense got nerfed a few patches back so no more tankiness. Don't face check a fleshpound or boss. Arc Generator got buffed so it's very decent now. Gravity Imploder got buffed so it shoots faster and is quicker to equip. HRG Beluga alt-fire works better now as firing a different shot rather than charging. Doshinegun still sucks no matter how it's buffed. It's the concept, not the damage or cost.

2745 hours and still going. Just glad this 7 year old game is still getting content. Game still has hick-ups even with a 3080 12GB. Eagerly awaiting the next iteration but with TWI now owned by Koch Media, who knows what will happen and when. At least Saber Interactive is helping to keep the game alive (somewhat).

***11-26-20 Review Update***

Latest Xmas update map isn't even holiday themed. It's very visually appealing but the sewage room isn't even remotely survivable without exploiting, and even then it's not guaranteed. Re-skinned husk launcher for medic, Vampire, is fun but totally not practical at all for the 2 higher difficulties. Frost Fang is super fun as either perk though.

Mosin Nagant still sucks and sharpshooter still isn't practical for HoE unless you like not doing anything except killing Scrakes and Fleshpounds. Mac10 still sucks even though it was buffed. It's too expensive and weak compared to other guns around its price. Maybe if dual-wielding it was possible it would be much better and fun. Arc Generator is a complete trash weapon for an already fringed perk. 1858 revolvers are the worst starting weapons for any perk. 9mm pistol is still better slightly.

Glock 18c, M16M203, Ion Thruster, Blunderbuss, and Dragonsbreath are the most fun weapons for me. Compound Bow is fun too but too expensive and definitely not practical. Minigun is also fun but not practical.

Don't be a sharpshooter unless you like crouching while scoped in and getting killed from behind. Be a Gunslinger for head-shooting and mobility or Demo for killing big zeds with ample ammo and 2 practical weapons instead.

Game is ok again after removing auto-kick features from servers. After five and a half years, I still really enjoy this game, popping in daily to complete the 3 dailies and 1 weekly. I only have 2400 hours played.

***Early Acess Review***
As of 6-22-15, the game is very enjoyable and playable with only a handful of glitches and exploits, which are being resolved. This Early Access version of Killing Floor 2 is optimized extremely well for playing even on older machines from 2009 as it runs on a heavily modifired version of Unreal Engine 3. However, to max out settings on 1080, a GTX 970 or better is recommended.

The most positive aspect of this game is how satisfying it feels to eliminate each type of Zed and the variety of said elimnation. Whether it be getting headshots during slow-motion or gasing a crowd with a medic grenade, it feels great killing Zeds. Bullet speed is taken into account to provide a simple touch of accuracy to the guns. However, bullet arc is not existent. All weapons perform to their level of power accurately besides the katana, combat shotgun, and eviscerator, which are in dire need of total rework or damage buffs.

Another positive aspect is the behavior of the Zeds themselves. Maintaining the same health while gaining more abilities and moving faster provides a better experience than simply gaining more health as the difficulty progresses. Each Zed has their own distinctive sound and animation to identify them besides how they appear. Sirens are only threatening when combined with a crowd that a grenade would take out because her scream eliminates that option. Flesh Pounds and Scrakes become a problem when there's 2 or more of them simultaneously. Each alone can be avoided easily or taken out quickly with the stronger weapons.

The most negative aspect, as of 6-22-15, is the underwhelming power of the Berzerker perk. Gone are hefty damage reduction, satisfying damage output and stopping power, and survivalability from the first Killing Floor in favor of a lackluster perk unable to kill anything up close or far away before teammates clear the room. The only thing positvely noticeable about being a Berzerker is moving faster, which the Medic also has the exact same bonus. Melee swing is faster but currently inaccurate as players fumble to determine exactly where the weapons will hit. Swinging higher when aiming for heads leaves crawlers undetected, which quickly become a nightmare as jumping over them is no longer an option even though jumping over railings higher than them is possible.

Another negative aspect is the lack of local hosting. Without another computer or dedicated server, there's no way to enjoy the game with only a select group of friends. A nice touch to offset this minor inconvenience is the party system, ensuring all friends in the party will be on the same server. However, if the party is not full or the server max players is more than the party then there's a chance of random people joining the fray.

One aspect that's found with mixed feelings is the teleportation and respawning of Zeds. On one hand, moving a threatening Zed forward and closer to the player provides more difficulty but could also be seen as unfair and a lazy developer tactic to increase difficulty without actually making Zeds smarter. Husks have a noticeably odd spawning mechanic, despawning for minutes as players are left to scavange for ammo and weapons freely, while Scrakes can spawn anywhere instantaneously to catch players off guard.

Overall, Killing Floor 2 is fairly polished considering its early access state. With loads of blood, bullets, gore, custom maps, mods, and skins, there's already enough content to keep players coming back for more despite Tripwire only releasing 4 perks, 4 maps, and 18 weapons. Highly recommended for those who enjoy dismembering mutants, earning Dosh, and feeling really awesome while doing all of it.

The power of Alt+Tab compels you!!! Despite the sound glitch, dumber-than-zombie bot AI, extremely short campaign, and other less-mentionable hinderances to an entertaining treck through Raccoon City, I still like this game. It so satisfying to pop a headshot on the undead. Encountering a horde is one of the best moments in this game while blind firing behind cover is mundane. If you like shooting zombies and can endure said glitches above, then you will have me as a partner in surviving the hell that is Raccoon City.

07-21-22: I remember purchasing the expansion packs on GFWL because of timed exclusivity and enjoying the rest of the story early but never intended to re-purchase them on steam. If the stories of the jankiness don't prove what a mess this game was, then my mixing a Steam purchased game with GFWL DLC should serve as evidence of what in the world indeed. Beautiful mess, great potential, more fun than RE3 Remake still.
