Great Game, bad design

No mans sky is clearly a work that came from a passionate team.
As the care it has recieved has been outstanding, compared to other games.

As i have't played a lot it would be unfair to rate the entire gameplay. So i'll stick to the first couple of hours.

Gameplay
The overall gameplay in the beginning is fairly good, providing great content that i wish to contiune to explore in the future, the gameplay is fairly paced in the beginning but it feels like the grind begins to pickup after 1-2hrs of play. The grind however can be a bit tedius and feel uninteresting.
An other grudge i have is the fact that you constantly have to recharge all your stuff. Each tool with a different material. This turns your grind into more of "Grind to stay alive and refill every tool all the time" and less "Grind to gather materials to build a house, upgrade tools etc."
This could be made better by lowering the resource consumption of certains tools. Maybe make your player tools use one material and your ship tools use another.

My last minor grudge is the ship controls. I'm personally not really a fan of these unresponsive controls. The ships feels like it is lagging behind my movement.

If you judge the game purely based on gameplay alone you have a solid 7/10. Good fun with mild annoyance.

User interface
I would love if i could give it that high of a score but multiple major flaws still exist that make me want to turn this game off after 30 min.
first one is the UI and the way you interact with it. The UI feels like a console port that were just ripped straight from the console verson and stitched onto the pc port.
I dont get why i have to hold the button to do even the simplest tasks such as opening inventorys. i can't it just be one click. The games seems to lack the ability to use your scrollwheel, instead of scrolling through a menu with your scrollwheel you click side buttons. Really annoying in my opinion.
And to top that off, the worst part of the UI is when changing numbers on the menu, this includes volume, mouse sensitivity, station trading and buying.
Seriosly why do i have to hold a button for a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ fortnight to set my volume to 100 or sell exactly 50 items.

Performce
One of my last major issue is the performance on this game is abismal. This is to my record the worst running game i've ever played, making the PUBG Beta look butter smooth compared to this molested donkey. There is however some configs you can make inside the gamefiles to increase your performance but it still runs like as fast as a walrus.
I currently own a GTX 970 (compareable to GTX 1060) and 4790K, both good mid-range components that should be capable of running this game at Medium settings 1080p 60fps.

1080p 60fps is as a long stretsh compared to what i actually get, if i get lucky i can hit 60 fps on the lowest settings possible in 1080p. it mostly stays around 40-50fps with drops into the 30s. In all other space games i've played i get upto 3x that performance. This performance is unacceptable for this hardware and will be the result to a point for 2 being deducted.

Small issues i also have is the inability to disable view-bobbing. Whilst not a huge problem for most people, if you suffer from motion sickness you may want to hold off on you purchase.

Overall
I were so close to give this game a positive rating. However the performance issues and motion sickness pulled me of that idea.
Overall a game with huge potential with a great amount of gameplay that i will return to once a couple more updates hits with performance issues.
And will update score accordingly. However currently i am giving it:

5/10

Elite Dangerous is a space simulator with is flaws. Whilst i love to play this game you may not enjoy it as much. The game currently sits a mixed reviews, this has been the case for years. I would say this is adequate since this is the feeling you will have when you launch the game for the first time. Let me explain with some bulletpoints.

Positives
- The game features a 1:1 scale of our own milky-way. Day/Night cycles are run realtime. Planets take their real-time to orbit their parrent star. Whilst this is not really a big gameplay affecting feature it is sure a nice thing.
- There is a lot of different stuff to do in the galaxy, this includes: Bounty Hunting, Trading, Mining, Powerplay, Wars, Dog Fights, Megaship hacking/looting, Thargoid Hunting.
- The sound-design in this game is amazing, you can hear the engines roar as you boost out of the station. The sounddesign is helping the immersion a lot.

Negatives
- The Progression in this game is quite bad, your income will increase linear as you play however the price of ships and modules increase exponential. This happens very quickly and can lead to a lot of grinding unless you intend to exploit your way to a big credit balance.
- The QA department over at frontier(developer) seems to be asleep since the game has little to no QA, stuff ship broken and mostly unbalanced.
- The game lacks content patches that feature new gameplay mecheanics or features. We mostly get new ships which are just an older ship with spoilers or other nonsense strapped on and some compartment changes, this screams lazy game design.

Neutral
- There are a lot of controls in this game, you need atleast 20 keybinds to be able to play, these include: turning, throttle, power management, targeting, landing, activating frameshift drives, deploying weapons and fighter control commands. This can be a positive or negative thing depending on which kind of person you are. If you are one that like immersion and want to feel cool pressing 20 diffrent buttons in a dogfight be my guest. But for new player this can be a chore to learn.

Overall Score
7/10

Early Access Review
This has the potential to become a great game, but a lot of stuff is holding it back.

- First it has no tutorial so you have no idea on how to play this game. Since many games are called/have a Raft it can be quite hard to find a youtube video or other documentation on how to play
- Second the earlygame will get boring quite quickly, throwing a hook at objects is fun the first 15 minutes, but thereafter it begins to become a nusense since it is the main source of material collection.
- Third The food and water bars either deplet to quickly or the food/water repleanishes to little, this turnes the game into a babysit the stat-bars and not build your dream raft as i had hoped.
- Fourth the research is possibley one of the worst kind of progression you can have in a game. You have to find random blueprints inside of barrels floating around, and hope it is the one you wanted and not some random one you dont care about. And to add insult to injury, it it random whether there is a blueprint in these barrels.
- Fifth This game should not be 20€/$, the content in the game is way to little to justify the 20$/€. There exist complete games of similar to this charging only 23€/$, that has way more content. The price of this game should be 8€/$ at its current state

Despite all these negatives, the game has some redeemable qualities.
- First of the game has Great Visuals, the games looks great and runs great.
- Second, The game is a Great Concept, that needs some tweaking and i sure belive this game will become a great game.

If i were you i would wait for a sale to pick it up or try it out to see if you find these things stated above as a problem.

Overall:
3/10 - With reddemable qualities

This is very detailed game, however there is some micromanagement that could be improved. like hireing staff and upgradeing them.
the graphics are beautiful. however if you begin to build very big parks, your pc will struggle.

If you love management games, and building games. BUY IT, NOW!!!

This game is in a constant state is disphoria, it doesn't know what it wants to be. I remember playing this game when it came out and actually enjoying it a lot. But the developers have changed the CORE GAME so many times now that each new login feels like learning a new game.
