Possibly one of the best games I've ever played. Unlike a certain other game about androids having existential crises, the story is a proper mind ♥♥♥♥ told much more concisely. The gameplay might not be everyone's thing, but I found it a lot more thoughtful and enjoyable. Not to mention the attention to detail in art and world design. I really have nothing to complain about and will definitely replay for the other endings at some point.

There might be a game in here somewhere but good luck finding it beneath the clown shoes and seminal fluids.

Perhaps the most disappointing game I've played in recent memory. The main gameplay loop makes for a floatier, less fun iteration of Metal Gear Rising with some obligatory RPG leveling systems and superfluous upgrade crafting mechanics thrown in for good measure. The open world has decent atmosphere but adds little to the experience, mainly providing spaces for the developers to place side-quest givers. Perspective/genre switches are novel but by the end of the game you'll have seen practically all of its tricks ten times over. The most fun thing you can do is plow into a group of robots while riding a giant pig.

The plot is best described as a series of melodramatic events that just sort of happen with little to no semblance of cause and effect or intent behind them. Typically I don't mind stories and settings that are vague or mysterious, but in this case any fragments of genuine emotion or intrigue are offset by excessive amounts of half-baked philosophical musing and meandering angst. The multiple route structure is, again, a novel idea, but ultimately serves only to sabotage the story's pacing. Supposedly a good amount of worldbuilding and foreshadowing is hidden away in various side-quests, but I couldn't be bothered to complete any more of them when most of the ones I happened to do were some variation on the classic "find x item for y character."

From the outside in, this game has many ideas which sound potentially great on paper, and I really did want to like it. Having played it through however, I found it greatly outstayed its welcome, and left me feeling more frustrated than anything. Chalk it up to community hype or my own misplaced expectations, or both. If the gameplay was more enjoyable, I might not have minded the story direction as much. If the story was more concise and engaging, I might have been able to have more fun with the gameplay. As it stands, neither were particularly good. But hey, 2B has 5 million polygons on her ass or something, so all's forgiven I suppose.
