Jarrizard's Steam Review
Hero's Quest

A good auto-battler that becomes a slog after a couple of hours.

The way the game works is that there is a map where you can freely walk around and there are group of mobs scattered and a boss that you need to kill to move to the next map. You walk up to an enemy and it does an auto battle where continously dish out attacks until either's HP bar goes to zero.

Each battle, you consume 1 stamina, losing makes you lose 2 stamina, and winning a boss battle earns you an extra 3. You start a run with 30 stamina and the idea is you have to consume those as smartly and as efficient as possible to get as far as you can.

You level up, allocate stats, and earn gold and buy gear to progress much faster and it’s over once you reach 0 stamina. Everything is wiped except your gears and the leftover gold is converted to tickets, a permanent currency to buy new characters and other upgrades.

While the design is interesting and feels fun when you first try out the game. It becomes incredibly tedious after a couple of hours. Make no mistake, it is an auto-battler but it is very far from an idle game. At 10 hours mark you have to start walking more maps to even start grinding because, the XP and gold the closer maps give starts to become irrelevant.

There are no teleports or waypoints. Once you consume all your stamina and end the run, you have to run back there to grind again. There will be A LOT of that later on. You'll reach a point where 3 runs is no longer enough to give you anything new upon reset, You have to keep walking and killing the same monster over and over and feel the stagnant progression while you're at it.

It is bad enough for me at 10 hours mark and I can only imagine how tedious it is at 100. Fun concept with execution that needs overhauling. It's hindered by the design that made it interesting in the first place.

For now, I do not recommend it.

It's a soulless low-effort game hiding behind a popular IP. If you like Boku no Hero Academia there are better games in Steam.

Remnant: From the Ashes

Remnant: From the Ashes is a blend of third-person shooter and Souls-like gameplay, minus all the frustrations you get from playing actual Souls-like games. The difficulty is challenging but fair, and you can die quickly even on the easiest difficulty if you're careless. However, death simply means you go back to the last checkpoint you were on, and all the monsters respawn. You get to keep everything you've looted so far, with no penalties.

The game has a few maps, each with 4-5 mini-dungeons and a world boss. The contents of each map are procedurally generated, so you'll get something new every time you play. There is a campaign that follows the story, and an Adventure mode where you can play specific maps. Neither mode affects the progress of the other, but everything you do to your character is carried over.

The level design is excellent. The atmosphere of each map and dungeon gives a distinct feel unique to that area. The paths are very intuitive, and the dungeons are just the right length. The campaign is short, but that's by design. There are alternate ways to kill bosses, which will drop different loot. There are also random items scattered throughout each map, which will keep you coming back for more.

The gunplay is satisfying and not clunky, even when mixed with melee attacks. There are enough weapons, armor, and accessories to mix and match to create a build that suits your playstyle. If you don't find the items you want in your world, you can always reset or join other people's lobbies.

Co-op is fun. Loot and progress are shared between all players. I do experience frequent lag, but that may be due to my location (Philippines). The population isn't huge, but there are always one or two people willing to join your world to help you out. The community is nice and helpful.

I would recommend this game. Remnant II is just around the corner, but this one is still worth a try.

Soulstone Survivor

Good fast-paced action roguelite game where you fight your way through hordes of enemies to collect Soulstones and level up a huge skill tree that makes you stronger each run. There is a lot of replay value thanks to the variety of characters and weapons to choose from.

The game is visually stunning, with colorful graphics and a great soundtrack. The controls are tight and responsive, and the gameplay is incredibly addictive.

If you are a fan of games in this genres, then you should definitely give this one a try. It is a great game that is sure to keep you entertained for hours on end.

The game is constantly updated by active devs so expect new contents once in a while.

Half of the UI is not translated. Do not buy if you don't speak chinese. The game feels like its in a very early state in Alpha. Interesting concept though.
