This is the game the media doesn't want you to know about

This is genuinely the worst experience I have ever had in a video game. I couldn't even get the cool weird-shaped pieces because the random generation was so broken that I only got pieces that were 4 blocks in size. It's free, so don't take my word for it. Try it out yourself. Best case scenario it'll entertain you for a few minutes, worst-case it'll give you a small headache.

EDIT: I'd like to say that the game has potential, it just has a long way to go if it's to get there. The game is slow, the UI is ugly, and the RNG needs a lot of work. This edit was to make the review more constructive so the developer can improve if they want to.

The game is fantastic, but prone to crashes unless you:
- Run the game in borderless windowed mode
- Download this mod [bpr.bo98.uk]
- Disable the Origin overlay
In terms of gameplay, it's a fun sandbox with tons of challenged and minigames, and an expansive multiplayer, however it's best played with friends

Positives :
- Phenomenal game which has improved substantially since launch.
- Tons of content:
  • 10-20 hour campaign
  • Multiplayer hub for finding friends to play with and multiplayer missions
  • Space combat,
  • Tons of randomly generated content with more appearing as you approach the center of the galaxy
  • A variety of different goals and ways to "progress" (more on why it's in quotes later)
- Frequent content updates
- Interesting environments
- Countless upgrades
- Dynamic economy

Neutral:
- You have to make your own fun once you're done with the main quests. The game does a good job of guiding you through it's content with it's quest system, where you can basically turn anything into a quest with multiple steps which will be pinned to your screen by pinning a recipe or goal in your logbook, but it's up to you to decide what you want to engage with and what is fun to you. You can explore the galaxy and hop planet-to-planet, you can be a merchant who trades with players and NPCs (you can automate resource collection eventually), you can catalogue all of the life on every planet you visit, you can journey to the center of the galaxy, et cetera. Whichever path you take is up to you, and while some are significantly more enjoyable than others, they all have enough content that you can focus on one or just vibe and do whatever you feel like in the moment.

Negative:
- The game has always been, and probably will always be extremely buggy
- The game runs terribly on old hardware and the minimum specs will not get you anything close to presentable
- The graphics shown in the trailers and screenshots are only possible on recent mid-range or high-end hardware, the terrain looks like putty on anything less (little to no grass, weird shapes/textures)
- In multiplayer the tutorial objectives can sometimes fail to trigger until you restart the game, and if your friends make too much progress they can trigger your tutorial quest objectives before you're ready (this doesn't apply to story quests, it mainly applies to base building tutorials)
- The starship controls are passable at best and cumbersome at worst
- Combat is incredibly easy

Highly recommend this game in spite of it's flaws, there is a ton of content and there are countless different ways to play this game. The game receives countless updates every year, and it's finally something I am proud to recommend.
