PROS

+ Simplified from HOI3

+ Visuals, atmosphere and music are great

+ Tech tree seems easier to understand and less bloated

+ Combat AI is good and can usually be left without much intervention

+ World tension system is great

+ Removed the tedious sliders from HOI3

+ National Focus system is great


CONS

- Simplified from HOI3

- Tech tree has less depth and seems too streamlined

- Diplomacy AI makes questionable decisions

- Diplomacy is imbalanced and nations can make far too large of an impact on each others politics

- Combat AI seems to struggle with naval invasions, especially at the large scale

- Navy and air force interfaces are clunky and need more definite information screens

- New trade system needs work

- Command group system needs more layers



My biggest gripe is the technology. It doesn't need every tech from HOI3 but there really needs to be more depth so that nations can specialize in certain aspects of warfare. Another thing is command groups. Even just one more layer, so that you could put two generals under a Field commander would be excellent. This would make synergizing armor and infantry in a battle plan so much better. Adding something similar for the navy and air force would be great too.

There has to be a happy medium between HOI3 and HOI4's current form.

Even after this I'd still reccomend it. A bit of work with command group depth, technolgical depth and diplomacy rebalancing will do the game wonders. I had the day off on release day and played all day. Loved it so much I called my boss and told him I'm taking the next day off. I resumed to play HOI4 all day the next day.

Please ad more depth Paradox, you've got another great game on your hands that you could bring to the next level.
