Let's get real. It's the mother of all vehicle-based PvP games. It has a well-designed and (mostly) reliable underlying system which feels just realistic enough to offer a sim-lite experience, but arcadey enough to be accessible to those of us with jobs. It has, as Todd would say, "a little something for everyone."

Gaijin still sucks. Their double standards are still annoying, and they're still greedy. But, I think that the game itself is fun. I generally enjoy myself when I play War Thunder.

But this game isn't fun in the conventional sense. It wouldn't be fun for someone who isn't into tanks or planes. This game is only really accessible, especially in the higher tiers of gameplay, to those who are dedicated or autistic. If you play at 4.0+ you're not going to consistently have a good time unless you are dedicated or fixated enough to learn the weak spots and weapons of the enemies you're fighting.

The most important thing in War Thunder is knowledge. Not just map knowledge and positioning--but knowing where to shoot your enemies and how to approach them with the weapon that you're using. There are hundreds of different vehicles in this game and learning a lot of them is your key to being successful.

Ignoring the ridiculous gate of knowledge required to get good at this game, the economy is terrible. Free-to-play is almost tolerable up until maybe 7.0 or 8.0, assuming you ever got there in the first place considering how long it would take to grind, but after that you'll wish you had premium. Premium time is practically a necessity if you want to make any real progression in War Thunder.

Overall, I really only recommend this game to those of us who are extremely autistic and fixated around tanks and aircraft. I can't imagine this game being fun for the average person, and I don't recommend playing if you aren't someone who /really/ likes tanks.

Also, don't let anyone convince you Britain is a bad tech tree or that solid AP is a bad round. Britannia rules the way.

Everyone needs to flood back into this game and make it active again. This game was one of the greatest experiences of my childhood.
