Nothing like another block DLC, this time with even fewer blocks - especially meta weapons - tied behind a 10$ DLC. I'm tired, boss.

There are seeds of a good game here, but a complete lack of refinement on a number of levels which would be expected for it's price tag, even considering it's launch sale release.

The core game play loop can be solid, the art style has a charm and the prospects of the upcoming "Director" mode definitely hold interest, but there are inherent issues concerning the lack of graphical and more importantly auditory options at the moment, as almost all audio is synced into either "Main" or "Background", with no option for music, voices, etc- this led to initial ear-pain at a cacophony of endless screaming NPC loops with no discernible source, then later a loss of situational awareness entirely.

It's also a MASSIVE file size- 20GB+. While the game does have solid core content as-is, it doesn't have nearly enough to dictate such space usage.

If you would like to support a rough gem that may or may not be a diamond, go for it. But I can't in good faith recommend this title, even with it's standing merit and potential, at this price tag and without even being decreed to be in an early access state.

TL;DR: 10/10. Great as it is in singleplayer, and even better with friends. I can't wait to see where it goes.

I've often heard this game compared to Project Zomboid in terms of game play, but I would rather compare it to the game Raft; the reclaimed structures and equipment and the combat feel similar, compared to the isometric controls and lethal combat of Zomboid.

The environments are incredible. Game play progression is, for the most part, smooth as butter; there will be times where you hit hiccups and have to back-track (be it for crafting, resource collection, trade, etc), but the amount of short-cut options you unlock as you progress through the facility gives you a true appreciation for the thought that went in to it's design. There are many instances in which progression can be achieved via multiple routes, which provides for a heightened degree of replay ability as they may lead you through entirely previously unseen areas.

Combat feels rough, but the developers are incredibly responsive and the whole thing is clearly a work of love. That is, at the moment, quite literally my only major critique.

TL;DR: Would recommend. Rimworld-esque colonist management, Mount and Blade like combat, large open world with quests and co-op. Unpolished, but still fun even as-is. 8/10

Personally, I find it refreshing to play a crafting-based management game where in you can construct say, a metal axe, with a single resource unit of metal as opposed too a massive quantity (A la rust or rimworld, for example). You collect resources in lower quantities, but each individual resource is able to go further as a result; once you get even two or three NPCs collecting resources on your part, you'll be able to almost entirely automate a self-sufficient resource-collecting outpost producing low-tier foodstuffs and one or two basic materials.

At the time of this review, I've played 25 hours and progressed half way through the second tier of the current three "Tiers" of technology available. Your mileage would likely vary; I meandered a bit for side quests, but primarily focused on progressing my village as quickly as possible to test out the villager management systems. The map is MASSIVE; if you took the time to explore about (likely running away from bandits for a majority of it), you could likely easily spend the same time just getting the entirety of it mapped out, visiting each currently existent village. At the same time, if you steamed through with no regard to quests while prioritizing your village above all else, you could probably cover the same ground in 10 or 15 hours of play.

In the games present state, I would argue that it is already worthy of it's price; it encapsulates mechanics from at least three different genre of games. That being said - I can only hope that it's development continues, as this is truly (as plenty of others have said) a polished gem; though one which could certainly use a lot of refinement.

Clearly a project of passion, backed by both knowledge and competence and uplifted by such an active development team's willingness to interact with and take suggestions from the community throughout it's development.

Well worth the price if you enjoy building simulators and doubly so if you prefer them not to keeter on toward the unnecessarily complex for relatively casual enjoyment.

>Be me, A newspawn.
>Decide to use a fake russian accent- Walk up to everyone at the train station, Screaming "AYY BARBOOSHQA!"
>Get on the train with two men, One doing black flips, The other playing muffled shouting into his microphone.
>Compliment screaming man's beautiful voice, Recieve pleasuring from backflip man.
>Eventually get off the train, And go to the car shop. Find a gun on the ground and take it.
>Dont have enough money for a car- Instead walk up to a guy who does, And shoot him a lot.
>Get into stolen vehicle, Begin driving happily around town, Crashing through buildings and occasionally cassuing a 5-car pile up.
>Scream russian at random passer-bys, While heading towards the car shop once again.
>Ram car going eighty MPH into two corporate cars, While getting screamed at by seven corporate members.
>Get shot at- Put car into reverse, And run over three men before dying.
>My last words: "GLOOOORY TO ARZTOTZKA!"

Subrosa is exactly how it seems- A Silly game, Assuming you want to be (An ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥) civilian like me, Or a more tense and serious one, Assuming you would prefer to take the role of the corporate leaders.

Pro's:
-Extremely fun gameplay
-Driving is fun, With a tiny bit of a learning curve due to the gear system.
-Gunplay is wonky, But tense, As your gun fires from the barrel rather then the crosshairs.
-The game is physics based, Leading for some entertainment just from walking and jumping.

Con's:
-The entire game has a strange learning curve, But once you've passed it you should be okay.
-There's relatively few active players, Though it's exremely rare to find a server without at least ten people on at a time, Which is enough for a game to be played.

Destination ares is a short, Yet difficult and fun, Resource management based game about leading a ship to your destination planet, "Ares."

While it is, As said previously, Short, This does not by any means detract any sort of positive experiences from the game.

Pros:
Easily "Launched, Played, Left, Repeated"
Interesting concept
Art style is simplistic yet functional

Cons:
Easily forgotten- You could play this game for a hour and forget about it for another two months before repeating the process.
It's a short game. This could be a positive, But overall i would consider this a negative due to its forgettability.

I would reccomend this to a friend as of current, If only to be bought on sale, Though i feel i would be more comfortable with its current price once it is more delevoped in the future.

This game is absolutely astonishing. The gameplay available so far is amazing for its current in game state, Despite the bugs and crashes, Thanks to the quick developer responses to problems found in the game.

Pro's:
Amazing developer feedback
Good ammount of content for the current stage of game
Huge expansions taking place as of current
Good building system, Allbeit a little slow.
Good race system, Allbeit a little low in aesthetic options for the newer races.

Con's:
A crap load of bugs. (Though, They tend to be fixed nearly as soon as they are reported.)
MAJOR CPU/RAM hog.
Slow paced. (Debateable as to weither or not this would be considered a con.)
Somewhat frequent crashes. (As stated, These tend to be caused by bugs that are frequently fixed.)
Lower-end graphics. (That being said, It's needed for such a large scale game.)

All in all, I'd rate this game a near 8.5/10. While its still in alpha, There are content updates nearly every week from what i've seen, LEading me to beleive that the game itself is well worth the investment to help with the developer's, Er, Development.

EDIT, 2024:
Hot damn.

Weird to think it's been eight years since this review, and yet this game still manages to pull me back from time to time with it's unique atmosphere and game play, even with all it's imperfections. I can only hope that should serve as some slight indicator of it's quality, for whatever that's worth.

Day one.
I wake up in a cryogenic facility, Instantly approached by a hulking monster. Remembering my knowledge and previous work in a garden, I decide to smash plants against my skin to scare the monster away. It works. I proceede to leave, Gathering pebbles and bark for my future domination of the world.
Day two.
I find out that bark does not protect me from hypothermia, And decide to scavange for clothes instead. Finding a shoe and a t-shirt, I dress. From rags to riches, They always say.
Day three. I am approached by a random man wearing a hoodie with a glass bottle. Thinking he is bringing me a gift, I attempt to speak with him, Only to have my head wildly bashed in with said bottle, The last words going through my head being; "I wonder if my shoe fell apart."
----
All sillyness aside, Neo Scavanger is an amazing game. It includes the perfect mixture of roguelike mechanics, Mixed with a interesting if sparse text based story. The complexity of the game itself is astounding, Considering that it's a flash. The only cons i could point out would be the fact that it is currently out of any major development, Though it is majorly bug free and full of content, As well as major modability in its current form. All in all, Worth the money.
