The thing that struck me the most about this game is the attention to detail. The graffitti, the posters, the tattoos on random strangers. The people in this game feel real. The town feels real. Obviously the setting itself is pretty mundane, but it is executed with a degree of skill that really contributes to an immersive experience.

Which then really helps you be caught into it even more when the game decides to take your guts and subject them to the heavy duty cycle of an industrial washing machine. Thank you game, it's not like I was planning to feel non-sadness emotions again at some point this week. Jerk.

This is a first person puzzle-platformer. The main mechanic is that your character has a glove that can remotely grapple surfaces, and pull him towards them.

The main feature of the game is in my opinion the fact that the puzzles are all interesting, and only in one occasion I was truly frustrated with the game. Often the game gives you two or three paths that you can follow for a particular sequence, too.

This is not a hard game. I wouldn't pin it as "easy" necessarily, but It's definitely not hard. In my opinion one puzzle in the last are was significantly harder that the rest of the game was on average, which was unexpected. There are achievements for finishing an area without dying and finishing an area without using more than X grapples (X depends on the area), and those looking for a harder challenge can maybe look into that.

The environments in this game definitely look pretty, especially in the first couple areas. The last area looked a little more bland, but still pretty good.

I finished the whole thing in 4 hours, obtaining a grand total of zero achievements. All in all, I liked the game fine, it didn't blow my mind but it was fun for sure.

The first game in the series was a masterpiece.

This prequel is slightly shorter and the story felt a little weaker. This is still a very good game, fun and full to the brim with the same brand of humour tht made The Book of Unwritten Tales such an enjoyable game, and I definitely recommend it. However, even considering that The Critter Chronicles has a much higher penguin count, I can't help but feel that the first installment in the series was a stronger title.

This is still a game more than worth buying though, although maybe not at the full 20$ retail price. Definitely worth it if on sale though.

I will be honest and admit that the golden era of Point & Click was a little past my age. Sure, I like digging up old gems and I have played through the various Monkey Island games, years ago, but that's it.

A few months ago I came across The Book of Unwritten Tales. I might not be a point & click expert, but holy c%&p was this game fun. It's humorous, it's full of pop culture references, it makes fun of other classic point & clicks in an often clever, and never mean, way. The puzzles are well crafted and the solution is often delightfully improbable (in that way that, you know, "makes sense" but only due to copious suspension of disbelief).

The music is gorgeous and the settings are very well designed, especially for a game with the kind of funding that the Book of Unwritten Tales had.

All in all, I would definitely recommend this game. If you just go through it with a walkthrough (which is, of course, far from encouraged) the game is a little bit on the short side, and considering it's now been 5 years since the game came out, I am not sure I would pay the full 20$ steam price. I would definitely get it if on sale though.
