Short and sweet. Surreal imagery, very wholesome.

Zombies is incredibly scuffed if playing with others, let alone playing on the same network. Game refuses to connect and majority of maps crash on loading screen.

Game is good but I expect these issues pre-Day 1 patch, not 8 years after release.

Great mindless co-op/singleplayer fun, with a few drawbacks.

So my first major issue with this game is the starting levels. Genuinely barely feels like a Serious Sam title at the start but this problem only lessens over time - with levels later on being real reminiscent of what the series is really about; big levels, big enemies and bigger guns. The first few levels though, with some exceptions, are mainly just small confined towns & cities with little space to move around in with lots of chokepoints and confusing layouts. These areas too are generally much worse looking then the sprawling deserts and oasis' you will come across down the road. All these factors make it feel like a rather linear attempt at a generic yellow-tint 2010 FPS instead of the fast paced action SS is known for, and did actually make me put the game down the first 2 times I tried playing. Some areas are also far too dark which really takes away from the light-hearted tone of the entire game for no real reason. Most of the underground tomb and catacomb sections would be so much more enjoyable if you weren't spending half the time getting lost in all the narrow passageways. that all look pretty much identical.

Second issue I had is how long it takes to get your weapons, replaying TSE makes you feel how much of a drag it is to even just get the double barrel.

These were really the only 2 gripes I had with the game that bothered me frequently enough to sometimes take away from the experience, but past that I did have a great time playing. Mainly on splitscreen coop. A fair few genuinely great "holy sh!t, that's alot of enemies" moments. The large majority of enemies are nicely designed and well balanced, a personal favourite being the "space monkeys" who actively hide from your flashlight and leap around column to column, waiting to pounce.

I do recommend this if your a Serious Sam fan, but definitely be aware it isn't as true to the series as it could be, or at least to start off. It runs fairly well (splitscreen coop was running on a average of 60-100fps & 40fps in bigger battles on high settings [I5-9400F, RTX2060 6GB, 8GB DDR4]).

Early Access Review
I really wanted to like this game, have had it wishlisted for a long time and follow the dev on Twitter but sadly cant reccomend it as it is for a few reasons.

I will start by saying it looks nice and has alright sound design, I think there could be improvements to create a better atmosphere but it seems looking at the discussion board/current reviews that most people are happy with this aspect so I wont list these.

The physics are cool and very reminiscent of flash games, the blood, corpses and decals look good too. There are vehicles, lots of interesting gadgets that are given off the bat (not having to explore to craft them is so refreshing). Along with friendly AI and interesting enemy types.

Onto my issues with the game:

Firstly there is no online co-op, only through steam link sharing and that is split screen too.

Secondly the options are very limited, no slider for sensitivity (in the options, you can manually change in the .ini file) and no vsync options despite being hard locked at 60fps. These two problems alone could be fine, but combined only exaggerate each other.

Lastly I would really like to see a customizable difficulty section. Personally I love hard and realistic difficulty, losing the bullets in your magazine with each unnecessary reload, dying to a couple of hits, low amounts of resources and restricted field of view but the problem I faced with the hardest difficulties, is you are given a large amount of ammo to fight off even larger amounts of enemies, which I really feel is detrimental to the vibe and atmosphere Hidden Deep is trying (and almost) pulling off, especially with so much inspiration from tense franchises like Alien and The Thing. This may just be me being nitpicky so disregard this if you are happy with alot of combat. (I know there is a setting specifically for exploring with lower amounts of enemies but it removes the before mentioned things to make it feel realistic, removing any tension from the game.)

This game really has some cool mechanics but as of it's current state I dont think its worth the high asking price. I will definitely pick this game up again in the future if these issues are solved/when online coop is working properly but until then I would suggest waiting. I really do wish well for this games future.

Fun game, takes a few matches to get used to the pacing and ditch old habits from other shooters but solid game after that.

Lots of weapon choices and graphics are nice - biggest flaw for me is you can't host private matches and there is no workshop support like in the first game.
