I never write reviews, but I don't want misinformed people to miss out on this game due to just looking at the current "mostly negative" status. If anything most of the negative reviews are just people circlejerking in their hivemind against Ubisoft.
Here are some of the "big" reasons why people are giving the game low reviews:
1: There are definitely problems with connectivity, no one can debate that (most online games do, but this is a pretty bad case).

2: There is some degree of class imbalance, which should be pretty obvious since its a fighting game with different classes, but like all games like these, a skilled player will overcome such circumstances.

3: A big controversy about the game was that the microtransactions made the game completely pay to win, this is not true at all. Everything except for some cosmetics can be purchased with easily obtained in game currency. You can buy this in game currency, but it doesn't put you at much of an advantage if you haven't levelled your character up much. The whole microtransaction thing is blown out of proportion

The game itself is great, it has unique gameplay, combat that isn't too deep and not too shallow, nice graphics and it is well optimized. The only real problem worth bringing up is the netcode used with the peer to peer networking. This very well could be fixed due to the mass complaints. Don't just look at all the ignorant <2 hour reviews calling it bad. If the idea of the game appeals to you and you can get past a disconnect every now and again, you will probably find yourself sinking many hours into this underrated title.
