I had a similar experience with Bioshock 1. I wasn't able to launch the game. It turns out, it won't launch if my soundcard was set to Dolby Digital.

I also, had crashes for some games when I had Raptr's in-game ui turned on for that game. Sometimes, multiple in-game UIs from different clients (Uplay, Steam, Raptr, Origin) can cause a game to crash.
