Absolute masterpiece! So much love has gone into the development of this game, and it is apparent in EVERY SINGLE detail. I am incredibly grateful to be able to experience this game as a huge fan of the Orville. Thank you SO much to the developers for making our dreams come true, and for actively developing this game. The multiplayer element is absolutely amazing to be able to play with friends, and I'm so thankful this game exists!

The heist theme of Teardown fits exceptionally well, and the music feels superb while you steal cars, blow up buildings, and use various means never thought physically possible before (Yes, lasers) to complete the objective. Even if everything is just blocks, the world feels surprisingly developed and genuine. The audio quality is excellent, it sounds really dramatic and polished. Seriously. You’ll be hearing the engine of your car groan in agony as you send it to its untimely death at the hands of that unrealistically large propane tank. Well, maybe not, but you’ll definitely hear that glass breaking into a trillion little pieces after you send your brand new Jeep careening off the edge of your cliff cabin.

Gameplay

The campaign is exceptional and extremely challenging at times. Especially in the beginning, you will be timed, and the game can be very unforgiving in this aspect. Many levels require an advanced stage of planning that we didn’t have the mental capability to do, and we found ourselves in sticky situations too many times to count. You will also find yourself having only an intimidating few seconds left once completing the level, even after meticulously planning everything out for 2 minutes in your basement using Microsoft Paint. You will be attempting many levels multiple times, and you will find yourself frustrated, but there’s always the sandbox mode where you have free rein over literally everything. With the new spawn feature, you can spawn any vehicle/prop in the game, including mods (We get excited even thinking about it).

The destruction and physics in Teardown are phenomenal. From buildings collapsing in clouds of rubble and dust, realistic fires and explosions, to wishing it had official multiplayer, Tuxedo games has absolutely mastered it and raised the bar for other games. The truth is that no other game offers what Teardown does when it comes to this department. You’re going to want to try every single tool and weapon at your disposal and see what effects it has on the environment. That’s a better way of saying wrecking and blowing up everything on the map to satisfy your need for destruction and weird looking robots (Yes, there are some). With an incredibly huge workshop and exceptional mod support, you won’t be running out of things to do anytime soon. You can trust us on this.

Graphics

And when it comes to graphics, you’ve surely seen the trailer already, and you know that with Ray Tracing built in, you’re going to get some of the most realistic lighting, shadows, and particles available with current technology. This is also a fancy way of saying you’re gonna need a nuclear reactor to run this. Teardown has some of the best graphics in any game we have reviewed so far, and that’s even considering that it’s voxelated. You’ll be staring in awe at the extremely detailed yet simple visuals Teardown has to offer, while at the same time thinking about how much you want to blow it up. Yes, the beauty of this world is only emphasized when the C4 and blowtorch come out. Watching a cabin burn on the hill as smoke and fire pour out of the windows with the backdrop of a beautiful sunset has a special feeling to it. We are not a psychopath. You can trust us on this.

Performance

We wish you much luck if you’re going to be trying to run this with anything worse than a GTX 1060. Sure it’s possible. But enjoyable? Think again. You want to get as many frames as possible while watching your wonderful getaway car being ripped to shreds by law enforcement (We are not making this up). Seriously, though, you’re going to want a good system to render those juicy frames of destruction while your CPU rivals the sun in heat calculating the mess of blocks you made. Also, yes, you will be seeing FPS drops while you perform an incredibly unrealistic attack on that new building of yours by spawning multiple hundred nukes. Just take it easy and you’ll be fine. Really though, you can see FPS drops while doing intense destruction, and that’s probably expected considering what we know you are going to be doing to that perfectly nice mansion.

Verdict

In all honesty, we think you’ll enjoy this game. I mean, come on, who doesn’t enjoy destruction? Even if it’s just to release your anger, or even to build something beautiful to post on the workshop just to have it be utterly mutilated and dismembered by other players, we believe most people will enjoy what Teardown has to offer. From picturesque vistas and rolling hills and rivers flowing through them with wonderful mountaintop houses to what used to be a pleasant little working town now turned into radioactive grit by thousands of missiles you totally didn’t fire at civilian targets, there’s something for everyone.

Stormworks: Build and Rescue is a special game. It's a rare find, not many games of the genre have what Stormworks has to offer: Dynamic weather systems, specialized building systems, a huge workshop full of amazing vehicles made by the community. If you are looking for a game with a set story, or a purpose, then Stormworks isn't for you. In this game, you create your own goals, recognize your accomplishments in your own way, and do things the way you want to. There's no one telling you what to do, and nothing directing you to the right path. In career mode, you start with a basic Search and Rescue company, and build it into whatever you see fit. Missions will come and go, new ships and boats will always be on the horizon, but what makes this game so special is the sense of freedom and adventure that sets it apart from other games. It's just you, the open sea, and your boat. You can explore the islands, which have a lot of beautiful hidden gems, you can look for loot crates and get some bonus cash, or you can save the boat that just went missing. It's completely up to you. There's no timer, no deadlines, and no expectations.

Graphics
While the graphics may seem bland and voxelated at first, there really is a certain beauty and awe to it. When the sun reflects on the water, allowing you to see the fish below, the waves ahead, and the horizon just beyond your sight, it is truly a magnificent experience. When I first bought the game, I thought the graphics could have been better. But as I played and explored the insane, dynamic world that is Stormworks, I realized that it was simply perfect. The graphics are fitting and suit the game extremely well, and there will be no shortage of stunning, screenshotable moments.

Gameplay
Once again, if you are looking for a goal that is set in stone, you won't find it here. It's all about creating your own sense of purpose. Rescue missions are usually different each time, but a larger variety would be nice. In any case, you'll be seeing a lot of unique boats with fully explorable interiors on your rescues. You can't really interact with the survivors, but that's fine for me. Some sort of way to interact or talk might be enjoyable and could add some interesting mechanics. You have a lot of things that you might have to do depending on the mission, sometimes you need to have a specialized medical boat, or other times you have to be prepared to fight a fire. It's always different, and always fun since there are so many possibilities. Add this to the dynamic weather, and you will never find yourself in the exact same situation or place twice. With the addition of the weapons DLC it adds a lot more possible depth and variety to what you can do, conquering islands and defeating the enemy, but I usually don't do much of that. The recent Natural Disasters update is HUGE for the game though, adding possible weather events to your rescue and even military operations, making it a lot more fun and unpredictable. You could have a weather warning for a tsunami as you go to pick up some wrecked survivors.

Multiplayer
In my opinion, the game is the most fun when playing with friends. You can assign different roles, and always have something to do. Weathering out storms and weather with your friends as you rescue some survivors is truly an unforgettable and wonderful experience that I wholeheartedly enjoy and recommend. Multiplayer works fairly well in the game, but there are a lot of improvements that can be done to help with desync and lag. But just with a friend or two it works fine and no complaints for the most part.

Developers
The developers still seem to have a passion for the game, evident by the recently released weapons DLC, and Natural Disasters update (free) plus small additions or fixes every week. It's usually something very small, but it means a lot to see the developers are actively working on the game each and every week and are committed to making it as good as they can. A road-map or more transparency from the developers on what's next for the game would be nice, but everything works very well as it is.

Verdict
If you enjoy sandbox games, building whatever you want, having an open world to explore, rescues, the ocean, and the freedom to do whatever you want, I'd say you definitely can't go wrong with Stormworks: Build and Rescue. It's an amazing game, and I always find myself coming back to it. Very masterfully done, and awesome to play with friends.

If you're taking a look at Oddysey, I assume you've played the base game.

FPS Gameplay
Not Recommended

I got into Elite for the exploration. for the ships, and for the flying. I feel like these are the elements that make Elite so special and unique. The FPS game play feels unnecessary, and recycled from other games. It seems like in Frontier's scramble to produce a somewhat finished looking product, they rushed and went and made what 90% of games today already have. It doesn't feel new, and there is nothing that makes it stand out from other games. And that's not to mention that half the time you can't even aim correctly because it's running at 20 fps on what is actually a good system (See performance.) On the other hand, the weapons are nicely detailed and handle well. There are also damage effects on objects which is cool to see.

On-foot Settlements
Recommended

One thing that I have been looking forward to in Elite since I got it has been ship interiors. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like we are going to get it any time soon. So these settlements are the next best thing. And I must say, it has been done extremely well. The interiors are fully detailed, every hallway and room has tons of graphical features, from computers and screens on the wall, to beds and lockers you can raid. This is the kinds of quality I expect from Frontier and the type of quality that I hope we will get in ship interiors. There's terminals where you can pick up missions and locate specific areas of the facility and there are guards and AI around the settlement you can interact with, which will increase in the future. Well done on the Settlements.

New Planets and Atmospheres
Not Recommended

I think this is the main thing I bought Odyssey for. I'm an explorer, and being out in the black thousands of light-years from the bubble exploring a random planet I found is what I most enjoy. The new atmospheres are stunning and can make for some of the most beautiful moments I've ever had in game. I've made more screenshots in Odyssey than in the base game and Horizons combined. It just changes everything so much. You now have wonderful plant life and new biomes and terrains to explore. The nitrogen atmospheres create awesome colors all above and around you. So why do I not recommend it? Because it seems the billions of "unique" and "different" planets we were promised is not a reality. When looking on the game's Reddit page, you see hundred of instances of players finding duplicated ares on planets, and not a few times, sometimes there's hundreds. I really hope this is a glitch that get's fixed, because it is the main thing that brought me into the game. If this was done on purpose, then I don't know what to say, because that would be incredible disappointing and lead to my full switch over to Star Citizen.

Graphics
Mixed

The graphics have certainly been reworked, and some things are better. For example, ship explosions look much better and even create a shockwave. Planets look much nicer and lighting seems to be better, but is it really? When comparing screenshots of some scenery of Odyssey and Horizons, it becomes almost clear that in most instances Horizons actually looks much brighter and clearer. This will definitely be a personal thing, whether you like it darker or lighter. The ships have also been reworked, with higher resolutions textures and navigation and strobe lights. I really like this addition, it makes it more realistic and I was always wondering why there were not navigation lights on starships.

Performance
Not Recommended

Performance is absolutely terrible on a huge amount of systems. With insanely low fps, especially when near settlement or station where I previously has over 150, this is infuriating. What seemed like an upgrade actually turned out to be a down grade where many parts of the game become almost unbearable and start to run like much of Star Citizen. If you don't have an extremely beefy PC, wait until performance updates are all completed. There are regular fixes, but you won't be able to see every single fix, some are targeted for certain specs and will see a lot while others will not.

Overall
Not Recommended

If you're looking to get the game, I would say wait. Wait and see if Frontier actually decides to commit to their product and to their promises. We need to see a lot more planets and planet types, we need to see everything we were promised, and they need to stop deceiving the players and be more open and transparent about what they want to do and what they can't do. I believe that if this happens, Elite will become a much better game and it's fanbase will become much more satisfied than it is now. But at the moment, the game is half finished, with developers rushing to get in whatever they can to declare that it was worth what so many spent. It is sad to see an amazing space exploration, combat, and trading simulator come down to the level of first person shooters and horrible performance.

I can't even begin to tell you how much I love this game. With great humor, philosophical morals, and outstanding gameplay with so many choices to make, this game really is one of a kind. The end really had me emotional.

Have you ever wanted to do anything?
Probably.
So, buy this game right now.
Why, you ask?
Because you CAN do anything.*

Want to set a up a police chase? You can be the police or the bad guys.
Want to test the durability of thousands of vehicles in the huge cannon?
Want to see what happens if a WW2 bomber crashes into a tanker?
Want to drive an ambulance into a lake? From a bridge? That 300 hundred feet up?

You can do all of these and so much more.
Welcome to BeamNG.

*Well, it kind of depends on your hardware.
