The population that plays this game has decreased in quality dramatically since its last update (2017) likely due to covid causing a surge of new PC owners and gamers. The new population of players are the FPS equivalent of midwits and are extremely unfun to play against. Players are certainly more competent or aware on average than they were a decade ago, which one may think would lead to better match quality, but they are also more exploitative of the game's poorly designed mechanics and systems, and they speedrun matches so they can get back to the loading screen ASAP. you rarely see players who actually like TF2 for what makes it special and try to achieve mastery of mechanics and instead see a flood of people basically cheesing games to get petty "victories" and achieve the fleeting ecstasy that only a subtard could feel upon being told that they "won"
