It's good.

Local Co-op is just a grand time bouncing off each other and throwin' buds onto that ledge or into those spikes. Makes the levels with that 'keep up' side scroll just awful, but in the best way.

BLUF: Pros do not outweigh the cons. An entirely too cumbersome bar feeding frenzy.

Preface: Only played survival

Synopsis: The biggest take away is the upkeep requiring your constant attention on top of being punished for exploration with insane launch fuel costs for every single takeoff. This game(mode) is a sci-fi simulation on what it would be like to be the most inefficient space exploring species in the universe. The tipping point for me was that after I acquired an exosuit upgrade, described as being able to increase my resistance to toxic environments, I simply acquired another bar to feed: Another task to throw on my upkeep list.

I say tipping point because to me if it adds more work (time it takes to get the mats to keep the bar filled) than gain (time it protects you from toxic environments) then it is literally a waste of my ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ time. Not an upgrade.

Not being able to trust developer judgement in something so philosophical and fundamental tells me I will only have myself to blame if I continue to put time into the title just to discover all the other things I probably won't enjoy in all of the other aspects of the game

Updated review 20190221: I stand by what I said. Although I'll admit, they added a lot of content- it's a full title. Just not my cup.

Didn't like how my hanger was too large to where the weather clipped through. That and the terrain manipulation limit killed base building. Every aspect other than exploring eventually reached an awkward bottleneck (how did living by an airport become prime realestate? Am I taking crazy pills? :stress:). Combat boiled down to standing still, shields up while charging that laser, shoot, rinse and repeat. And 'exploring' felt like inefficient live action load screens (aka FTL travel) to roll the dice on Dr. Seuss' RNG, all to find out what ONE (if you're lucky, two) difference(s) exists between entire galaxies.

But what do I know. Still looking forward to "The Last Campfire"
