Ironically, I have over 600 hours of steamVR running in headset-less mode to develop 3D tracking systems for digital fabrication & construction.

Does it work well in such a situation? Absolutely ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ not.
Does it cost over 10x less than mocap? Yes.
Does mocap work any better? Actually no, you'd be surprised at how bad "professional" solutions are in terms of reliability and resilience to external factors. I kind of need the damn thing to track properly on a construction site that I have no control over.

This built the UAE pavilion (golden lion winner) of the 2021 Architecture Venice Biennale.
If Valve staff could respond to any emails that would be great.
