Nostalgia vs Reality - not a review~

Nostalgia got the better of me and seeing this available on Steam, I just had to install it. This was afterall, the first MMO I ever played back in 2000-2003 and also the first MMO community (twRO) with whom I had the good fortune to go adventuring with. Only five minutes into RO, I was entranced by the comfortable familiarity of it all. -/lazy insert everything I love about RO-

Soon though, the nostalgic glow started to wear off...I missed the feeling of being a wide-eyed newbie, falling down and picking myself up again, bravely exploring a whole new world. I missed the community of twRO, I missed...I missed...

Reality was, the RO of today is somewhat the same but different. Without going into details, some game mechanics are different, simply put. Anyways, my time on RO again after a decade (half of which was subsconsciously spent wishing that I was somehow still playing RO!) was deeply conflicting instead. Also, the awesome fun I had back then in RO also seemed to pale a little in comparison to the 'newer' fun I had in more recent MMOs; what a fickle mistress the human mind is when it comes to comparisons?

The best of nostalgia can only happen when we look back at something and remember only the good but none of the bad and do no comparisons!

My dear RO, I'll stick to remembering that lovely and familiar smile of yours, marvelling at the chemistry we had with each other and the good old times together with that community of twRO. :)

I am not allowing myself to be stuck in the worse, for moving forward is as simple as trying something new: a relationship, creative projects, a new television show or game while holding fast to the firm knowledge that I was fortunate enough to have these fond memories of Ragnarok Online in my lifetime.

tl;dr
***Try it casually if you are new to RO (and to most modern 'action' MMOs) - but don't compare amongst them for RO can come across as antiquated; that won't bode well for the game nor for ya. I also had lag issues with this now and annoying chunky rubberbanding.

***Don't even try RO again, if you had played it before and especially if you had loved it to bits previously. There's no need to make new memories, your old ones of RO are precious enough and good enough forever.
