Dark Souls 2 will always be the true Dark Souls experience in my eyes, and Scholar of the First Sin improves upon that experience by rethinking different areas of the game and giving it a fresher paint job. What sets it apart from the other installments of the series to me is the calm, bleak atmosphere, the sheer aesthetic of the world and the solid mechanics that (thus far) Dark Souls 3 has failed to replicate in my opinion.
