Deus Ex is my favorite game of all time, when this mod launched, it was great, but it had issues, or not really issues, but it could have been much better. Since release, the devs keep updating it and with each update the mod becomes even better than before, to the point I consider it being the definitive Deus Ex package.

My only problem with it is the performance, there are pretty hardcore single thread CPU bottlenecks.. even with a very good CPU my framerate can dip to 35 FPS sometimes just exploring environments ! It is the only problem I have with it and I hope devs can find some clever workaround to improve performance. Otherwise, absolutely phenomenal !

As it stands now, I can't recommend it, 343 is releasing games in broken states just to get that roadmap going, this was the worst way to handle things and I am extremely disappointed. Games are not faithful to Bungie's original vision, they are preserved in a bad way and exhibit many visual and audio problems.

I will change my review to positive as soon as the Campaign problems (i'm not even talking multiplayer...) are fixed.

-------------------------------------------------------------

Well, after a thousand hours, my review still stands, many things have been improved, especially for single player, but it is just not enough, plus as soon as Infinite got released, this thing got completely abandoned.
It's a console game made to be played with a controller, I'm a PC gamer and I play with Keyboard and Mouse, so I'm leaving this, and I'll jump on Counter Strike 2 as soon as possible :)

I just finished the game, this review will be short, but informative, I played Half Life a lot, I love this game. Black Mesa manages to, not in every areas but most, be better. That's right, as it stands, for me Black Mesa is a better game than Half Life overall (not by much but still). It is an incredible experience.

However, while I enjoy the technical marvel of the Source Engine pushed beyond it's limits, it has it's shortcomings that you should be aware of, this game can have brutally low performance at times, even on very good rigs, due to obvious CPU low multithread usage bottleneck. Listen to the video options and don't select stuff that puts you the little warning thing! Partially because of this I can't recommend playing this game in hard difficulty, play normal or black mesa difficulty instead, because the low performance can be an unfair reason to die sometimes.

Also as it stands, while the Xen chapter is very impressive, it was not ready for release and the second part of it feels very rough, laggy, and drags on a bit too much, so I would suggest waiting for more patches... yeah.

Otherwise, what a game man, we don't make games like this anymore. This is what a great FPS is, and the industry shall take some serious notes. Fantastic game. 8/10, can be a 9/10 with better performance and more polish for Xen.

PS: Whoever pushed screen shaking into this game, I hate you so much (my previous words were uglier than this but I decided to stay polite). It gave me serious headaches in Xen and you absolutely need to provide an option to turn it off.

I was not able to have any fun playing it.

Unity ? check
stuttery 50Hz game physics and animations ? check
really bad visuals ? check
depressive narrator ? check
completely not intuitive controls ? check

mmm
dunno, I'm a sucker for weird experiences,
but this one clearly needs a technical polish first, to at least get an incentive for playing it

A really fun and entertaining Touhou, maybe the funniest and coolest in the series, as long as you play it for fun and not seriously it's all right.
Keep in mind that the engine still doesn't support high framerate and still doesn't support 1080p though (60 FPS max at 1280x960), so you might want to give it a pass if that's important to you, otherwise have fun !

It's a great game, the pointdevice mode is a very cool idea, and the art direction and music is super cool.

BUT.

Color shifting trembling projectiles.

Why ?

Just why ?

Just why really ?

Makes it absolutely impossible to enjoy the game for me. Don't get fooled by my playtime on steam, I play offline with thcrap.

Unless someone finds a way to remove at least either the trembling or the color shifting, this review stays negative.
I capped PDH in 7 tries in hard. 1500+ in lunatic and still not capped, capped spring lunatic 15 times in th16.

This color shifting trembling projectile BS is the very definition of artificial difficulty based on visual disturbance, and is a massive failure of game design.

I'm finally able to write a review for this, as I cleared all routes.

I'm definitely recommending this, I love the Steins;Gate story, I think it's one of the most engaging and emotional stories ever written. If you have never played Steins;Gate nor watched the anime, go buy this blindly you will have an absolute blast and don't continue reading this review, this review is mostly intended for people who already played the original game and watched the anime.

While this package is definitely interesting to enjoy, and I'm still recommending it, sadly it is not the "definitive way" to enjoy the story as I thought it would have been first, and there are multiple reasons for that.

Even if the fully animated thing is there (and definitely brings to the experience), it somehow feels cheap, I understand that redo all scenes animated would have cost a fortune, but while the anime adaptation flows and never stops, using anime art and animation for a visual novel, which is much slower paced, feels kinda.. bland, thankfully not every time, but sometimes.
Many scenes and camera angles are reused, and often the emotion does not line up with the face the character is making. But as hard as I may make it sound, it's really not that much of a big deal. It's definitely enjoyable regardless, for the most part.

My 2 biggest complains, are music, and gameplay, let me explain.

First, music, more silence please ! I really like the Steins;Gate ost, but PACE it ! Many times it feels like the soundtrack is forced to fill empty spaces, which is not necessary, and sometimes you end up with happy music over a sad scene, or the opposite, just because the music "had" to play there. It may not, sometimes silence is preferable to out of place music (cf. Akira Yamaoka, which often expressed how silence is an essential part of his composition in the first Silent Hill games).
And also, that may be my biggest complain, if the game wants to be so badly a blend of the VN and the anime...
WHY IS THE ANIME's MUSIC COMPLETELY ABSENT ???!!! I mean, isn't a $60 game enough to have the rights for the anime's music ? I don't get it. Some of the anime's music fitted some scenes marvelously well (which I won't spoil here of course) now, you have that music you heard 35 times already playing instead.

Second the gameplay, and that's more a complain about the original game than this remake, to get to the true ending, you can avoid using a guide, I did it, but the "gameplay" mechanic is utterly stupid and doesn't make any sense.
Basically the game says that it is all about the butterfly effect, but there is no meaning, nor puzzle, nor logic here.
You have to redo the entire game multiple times with skip mode enabled, and make countless of saves, and observe if the skip mode is being paused or not, indicating that a new branching point has been reached, branching point that doesn't change much of the story, or sometimes doesn't even change anything. This is a point where the remake could have greatly benefit some improvements, sadly, it does not.

In the end, I'll be lying if I say that I didn't have a blast with this, it is definitely enjoyable even considering it's flaws, and again, if it's your first contact with the Steins;Gate universe, just BUY IT ! You won't regret it. For people who already played the original game though... I'd say it depends if you're comfortable spending $60 in what is essentially a new but not perfect way to re-enjoy the amazing adventures of Hououin Kyouma the self proclaimed Mad Scientist !
If you're not, I'd say wait for a sale, and get this at $20-30, which is more in line with what this game should cost in my honest opinion.

Have a great time !

El Psy Kongroo !

Waw, I heard people saying you can finish Leon route A in 7 hours, I guess they were talking about normal difficulty, because in hardcore it took me 13 hours !! I still have Leon B, Claire A and Claire B to do, so I guess the game is not very short LOL.

It's not perfect, but it's very good, minor complaints here and there (no ink ribbons in normal, running speed is a bit too slow, original soundtrack is much better buy the dlc if you don't have it, some things feel "old" like leon who can't do a 1 meter jump to get past the library) but otherwise waw.. what a blast. Special mention to the ending which is epic AF.
Visually the game looks good, it's nothing exceptional but it gets the job done (characters and ennemies are top notch though) and aside for the volumetric lighting quality which is very taxing, everything is super well optimized. I whished the PC version would have pushed things a bit further, but there are rumors for future RTX implementation in DX12 so we'll see.
Beware that (even if I really enjoyed it) the hardcore difficulty is BRUTAL AF sometimes and clearly aimed at survival horror veterans !

I'm totally recommending it, it's worth it even at full price ! 9/10 !

This game could have been a modern classic FPS !
It is in many points superior to TNO, but there is one big problem.
You can see this game in 3 chapters, and while chapter 1 and 2 are really great, chapter 3 is absolutely terrible and drags the game down completely.

I'm still recommending it since modern hardware and the high framerate patch can make this game pleasant to play, but good modern hardware and the high framerate patch are mandatory to enjoy this honestly, if you have just an average PC, look elsewhere.
