As a lover of Unreal Tournament, Quake, Doom and long time Counterstrike addict, I wasn't sure if I would like Apex but thought i'd give it a go when season 7 came out. I was very happily surprised! 56hrs in and I can't get enough of it. It's refreshingly fast paced and heavily rewards skill. Guns are satisfying and reasonably balanced. You pick up something half decent relatively quickly so it doesn't feel like you spend you life hunting for gear. My only gripe is that I seem to always be thrown into arenas with very good players which is somewhat off-putting!
