UNDERTALE is a fantastic game that really put Toby Fox on the map. Charming characters, fantastic story and gameplay, great music-- hey, HEY, don't scroll back up! You didn't open the wrong store page.

DELTARUNE is what happens when a passionate creator like Toby Fox makes a great game with the help of the right team, succeeds, then refines what worked and improves what did not. It's a spiritual successor to it. But more than that, it's a most charming masterpiece.
The game is not even complete right now, and the fans rightfully fuel themselves for years between chapters solely on how much love you can find for what is already out.

The music? Iconic. Covered, remixed and mashed to death. You can't break a tune made by Toby.
The gameplay? Varied, fun, easy to learn, yet clearly hard to master as some boss fights will teach you.
The story? Listen, if not even MatPat or anyone else has managed to wrap their head around the entire canon on their own, you know you did something right.
And the graphics? Simple, yet excellently executed pixel art that sears itself into the mind of the player, forever iconic with its character designs and overall flair.

Every time I hear someone has not played UNDERTALE? Scandalous.
But if someone dear to me among my gaming friends says they have not played DELTARUNE? You bet your ass they're getting a copy from me next chance I get.

It's not perfect, but it's certainly a good exploration of transhumanism.

Music's pretty good, visuals are decent, writing is super solid. Some animations are rough and the gameplay has seen better days but I'd say the experience was worth my time and coin.

Though if I were to go in knowing what I know now, I would've probably have to brace myself to dilute the impact of the horror as much as possible. Don't get me wrong, it did some horror great, but at times it's also it's weakest spot. The game goes from proper psychological horror to cheap jumpscares and monsters chasing you. I'm not sure why they okayed it like that, it's messy.

So yeah. I like the story, the atmosphere most of the time, and it was quite worth the experience. But it wasn't perfect. I'd say full price is okay but waiting for a sale is very excusable.

If you ask people who played this game, they will tell you it is a beautiful story to run into blind with a friend or a lover.

I have now gone in blind with a friend. I can confirm that this was every bit as wonderful an experience as you might've been told. Perhaps it's even better, as it's not possible to do this game justice without spoiling it.

So I will concur with everyone else. It is a beautiful title. Pick a friend who never played either. Go in blind. Follow the instructions. You will love it.

Really cool Metroidvania that will definitely scratch that itch. Interesting upgrades, really cool lore in particular.

Solid gameplay overall, though some of the guns feel useless by the time you find them, and the game could use more tools to help reach 100%. At least visual hints on the map when a visited area still has something to discover, or some ingame mechanic to nudge you in the right direction. Or some more ways to speed up traversal when you comb through the entire game.

I wouldn't go for 100% personally, but I certainly tried. I had fun. Worth full price.

It's a pretty alright game all in all.

Music is alright, gameplay is solid, graphics are... well, it's an 8-bit style game, I suppose the pixel art is good?
Not a huge time sink but playing 100% on the main gamemode is quite enjoyable without being too much of a chore. You can tell the devs did their homework.

I wouldn't say the game is fun enough to unlock all achievements, but it'll scratch the itch if you need more metroidvania in your life. Worth full price.

Maxed every relationship, got every settlement, every bobblehead, every magazine, at some point the game didn't know how to give me better gear anymore, and I couldn't find any more quest.

Which generally means I had a good time.
You know, after installing an intense amount of mods. But that's par for the course, we're talking about a Bethesda Creation Engine title here.

A little short if you dare look up the wiki, but extremely entertaining with a lot of depth to the different endings!

You can look at is as a love letter to game design, as an essay on the nature of freedom, as a critique of video game reviews, as an artistic walking sim, or just a game about messing with the Narrator, and honestly?
This game is all of the above, and does a good job at it all.
If you can afford it, give this game a few hours. It's a cultural landmark of gaming worth experiencing.

Too bad I have both.

It was a cool metroidvania I guess. Visuals, sound design, music, all pretty stellar.

Though to be honest, I couldn't be bothered to do 100%. All those secrets are far too cryptic at times and traveral is way too slow once you've been everywhere and need to start combing every screen again in <i>hopes</i> of finding one more egg.

Also, I cheated in a couple places if I'm being honest. Some of the bosses just feel far too frustrating.
