Human anatomy has been developed as with the progress of knowledge about the components of the body and the understanding of the functions of organs. The earliest human anatomical descriptions were found written in papyri with information on medicine, produced in Egypt about 1,600 years before Christ. The origin of this knowledge is attributed to works published a thousand years earlier by Imhotep. Centuries later, in Greece, human anatomy was taught by Hippocrates as part of the basic teaching of medical training. At that time, dissections were performed on animals to experimentally corroborate the descriptions of human morphology. Hippocrates recognized as the "father of medicine".
