As someone who has played way too many asset flip 3D haunted walking sims over the past two years, the sensation of dread entering this game was palpable. However, the promise of a dog kept me intrigued and willing to keep an open mind. And I'm pleased I did, for while the game has many of the usual tropes, it also featured some very neat little touches you don't see anywhere else. For example, just wait until you answer the phone in the house as you'll be in for a fun surprise after. There are also some jump scares that genuinely got me and a very good use of sound to build tension.

On the whole, I enjoyed the experience way more than I have others, so definitely give it a solid go. There's just enough originality in there to keep you moving through the rehashed slower parts and truly shows the developer really wanted to be more than a carbon copy. I hope they expand even more in future games and show as much love as they did this.

This game made me jump several times, but in a way that didn't feel cheap. I love the PS1 graphics and the overwhelming sound blasting your eardrums constantly.

My only gripe is the randomness, in particular the teleporting train conductor. You can watch him walk away then die because he's just spawned on top of you, which can be frustrating as it reduces to game to luck over skill.

Still, definitely recommended if you want a simple premise with a lot of bite. It keeps you coming back for that "Just one more time" attempt.

"Father, how would you define the humour of metalheads? They seem very angry and serious."

"Here you go, son. Play Priest Simulator. Then you'll understand."

The random spooks and constant twists keep you on edge with every shift you decide to work, so plenty of replayability!

Early Access Review
Well, it's definitely Early Access, that's for sure. Not even close to Beta testing so I'd wait a while before checking it out. Has some new ideas, but really? Do we honestly have to go through James Brownstone School in yet another game?! At least tint the walls differently or something.

Mostly i want to leave this review for the devs to throw some ideas in.
Using torch OR device is painful and just doesn't work.
Really needs a key binding function for PC. Right click to throw stuff I get also, but very easy to throw a device or torch by accident instead.
The main hub is nice looking, but the fact you can't launch from there is a bit meh (I'm assuming it's to be altered in the future).

I'm definitely keeping an eye on this game, but still a long way to go before I can recommend buying, even in Early Access. However, I have faith in it eventually being something good.

Early Access Review
Pretty much the best early access game I've played in a long time. Planet Dominion highly recommends.

If you took Legacy of Kain, Valheim and Diablo, placed them in a blender and added a dash of Worcestershire Sauce, it would be this game. Lots of bosses, looting, unlockable powers (without the need for levelling up systems), construction, decoration, weapon choices, thrall creation and more. Plus you're a vampire, so there's that.

NOTES FOR CONSIDERATION:
If you like PvP, do a PvP server. If you enjoy PvE, do a PvE server. Don't play on a mix or PvP-lite, as you'll quickly discover all your items gone, your castle destroyed and your frustration hitting explosive levels. Just don't. Not even once.

Can be tough playing single player, so I recommend grouping up.

You look in the direction of your mouse and move with WASD. You turn the camera with your right mouse button. This can sometimes go awry if you're trying to track an enemy by holding down right click, as the cursor showing where you're facing vanishes, and if you're staring intently at the foe at the time, you may not realise you're not actually facing them.

Base building can get a little crowded on busier servers and you'll need a lot of space for all the different rooms you'll need to build as the game progresses.

Otherwise, can't think of much wrong with it. It's a great game that's a lot of fun for survival crafters who love vampires too.

Everyone needs to play this game.

It's all the 1980s in one fun, Earthbound meets Lucas Arts style adventure. It even has VHS tracking and a Saturday morning cartoon story. The bike bit is a bit of a sod, which only brings back more nostalgia of the days when games were designed to swallow up your money at an arcade. You'll be forced to learn attack patterns over and over to beat this, or face another unskippable cutscene. On the upside, it won't tell you to rewind back to zero each time you die, you lucky lucky people (those born in the 90s don't know how good they have it!). Definitely best played with a gamepad.

I could pad this review out more, but really, this is all you need to know about the game. It will make you laugh, cry, frustrate and feel triumph, all without needing flashy graphics.

I wanted to love this game. I really really did. The second I heard it was coming to Steam I had the date in my diary, eager to play it. I didn't even mind the game style had changed from the original two games; it was Fear Effect, and that made me happy.

Unfortunately it's a game riddled with issues. I've onlyplayed for 4 hours and already the flaws are glaringly obvious. The isometric viewpoint is fixed, which wouldn't be an issue so much if the level design was clear, meaning half the time it's trial and error as to what is a walkway or door. I found myself backtracking and searching areas repeatedly just to work out where the game wanted me to go. The AI is very basic, with enemies just standing around discovered bodies, staring into space until returning to their fixed patrol routes as if nothing had happened. I tried the tactical mode only to have my allies get stuck on walls or doorframes until I took manual control again, which made the option cumbersome and far easier to solo most levels. And some of the dialogue comes as non sequiturs.

The animated sequences between levels are pretty though, capturing the style of the original games with their two tone cell shaded styles. And the puzzles are pretty fun, involving observational skills rather than find one clue and move on. There's a great sense of accomplishment of getting things right first time.

Unfortunately when compared to current isometric stealth games, this one falls terribly short. In fact, I'm not sure it reaches a great standard amongst any stealth / tactical games out there. If this wasn't Fear Effect, I suspect it would go largely ignored. But ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ I wanted it to be good. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't written this review in the hope it will get an update to fix it, because it's clear the creators are as big a fan of the series as those who bought the game.

Engaging and deep in a way only the East can deliver. A twisting turning tale which begs to be experienced, where the true horror is an all too real history.
