Disastrous (predictable) launch. I waited a year to get the game +Year 1 DLC for $38 and I still felt robbed. None of the soul that made PDTH or PAYDAY 2 special is here. This is a game designed by a committee that either didn't like or didn't care about the previous games. It's a mash of mechanics from other (more popular) games that were added in lieu of having a single original thought on the game series they inherited. Refunded after 4 hours.

Sony is effectively depreciating the game in countries who are unable to comply with their policies. Selling a product one way and changing the rules once you've got your hooks in people months down the line is business in bad faith. If this decision isn't reversed, I'll be refunding.

Early Access Review
There's a good game here, and I'm sure it will be in time, but it needs to bake a little longer before it's worth your time or money

TLDR: Not worth your time. Wait for the developers to deliver on their promises before sending any more money their way. Even if you love 40K, this game will only leave a bad taste in your mouth as it is now.

Pros:
-Excellent soundtrack
-Excellent sound design
-Visually superb
--True to the 40K universe
-Fun gameplay loop

Cons:
-Released unfinished
--Missing core features (crafting, private lobbies, server browser, endgame content, etc.)
---Fewer weapons and gear on release than was promised (& marketed...)
-DAY 1 FULLY FUNCTIONAL CASH SHOP
-Overarching game design that tries to rival Destiny in its focus on Content Grind
-Limited map pool
-Limited character selection at release (VT2 released with 4x the playable characters/classes)
--(40K Darktide: 4 characters, 1 class each = 4 ways to play. VT2: 5 characters, 3 classes each = 15 ways to play)
-Poor "story" (Literally only a handful of poorly-capture cutscenes focused on an Among Us traitor (I wish i was joking))
-Poor Hub area design
--Destiny 2 tower type area, but to edit your build you have to run back and forth for 20 seconds each between your item and upgrade shops.
--No interesting set dressing. Beyond its (limited) functionality and 40K design, the hub does not offer any environmental storytelling, no interesting side characters, no cozy little spaces hidden out of the way - it's nothing but an annoying barrier to gameplay as it is now.
-CASH SHOP (remember, it worked on launch day when so many other things did not)

I really wanted to love Darktide. I'm not a hardcore 40K fan, or even a big fan of Warhammer in general - but this game looked so good in the trailers! I love horde shooters - and this game really scratches the same itch that PAYDAY does. The problem is that the good elements of this game are buried under systems devised by wicked middle management and board executives.

This game is made by people who /GET/ 40K, and it shows. Visually stunning, mechanically smooth, it brings you into the year 40,000 with incredible sound design and a banging soundtrack. Drop in, kill heretics, do objectives, get paid, repeat. It's Fun! I like doing that! The problem is that's the entire depth of the gameplay loop, and that loop is stretched to the very limit in order to drive up player retention numbers and encourage the purchase of additional in-game currency.

If Fatshark had had a different publisher, maybe Darktide would have been everything we wanted on launch. As it stands, Tencent meddling has left this game decrepit only 2 months later. I've uninstalled, and will be waiting for the game I paid $40 for to be released. Please, vote with your wallet, and your time. Thanks for reading!

Seems like a mobile port. Poor audio design/mixing. Spelling/grammatical errors in tutorial text.
