A good but not exceptional game in an underserved genre. The single player campaign and replayability due to the custom creator mode make the game well worth it. However, the multiplayer is very underwhelming.

Pros:
- Engaging and lengthy single-player campaign
- Creative commander power-ups
- Multiple win conditions (killing commander or capturing a HQ) makes for more varied play-throughs (and even more win conditions in custom levels)
- Combined land-air-sea gameplay with decent balance between the three
- Floating cities give an actual reward for naval dominance
- Deep and Varied custom creator mode with the ability to make and share levels, cutscenes, and entire campaigns, giving excellent replayability.
- Consistent and pretty art style

Cons:
- Online is dead and the pikeman meta overcrowds and ruins P2P matches
- Naval warfare is not very deep - one unit trumps all
- Level ranks are determined only by time passed and not be a more holistic metric
- Commanders have little influence and should have an additional passive effect to add character

Overall, possibly the best Advance Wars-esque to come out in the past few years. Definitely recommended to fans of the genre.

This game is my childhood, and the PC version stays true to that. Good Local Co-op is all too rare in the world of PC games, and this game has it. The game also has a surprising amount of Single-Player replay value due to 5 different objectives you can unlock for each stage, and the development of Chaos in the Chao Garden and the hidden Easter Eggs in the levels (like trying to find Big the Cat in every level).

The charm might not be there for somebody who didn't grow up with the game, but give it a chance and you'll love it too. The best Sonic game, in my opinion.
