Yakuza 3 has A LOT of charm. It portrays a side of Kiryu I had yet to see, which is his role as a father figure to all the kids in his orphanage. I ADORED my time in the beautiful Okinawa ( the first 1/3 of the game is placed here), where you spend time with the children, and help them deal with their childhood troubles, like being bullied at school, homework, making friends, etc... Also, the game's virtual tourism aspect really peaks in this area, it really feels like you're there!

In terms of story...This one was really tough to digest. Without spoiling anything, the story is extremely cliché, you can see the plot twists coming from a mile away, the villains' motivation are weak, the characters behave RIDICULOUSLY stupid at times, which will leave you screaming "YOU COULD HAVE EASILY AVOID THAT ENTIRE SITUATION, YOU IDIOTS" during some of the "dramatic" scenes. Most of those scenes actually left me dying of laughter where I was supposed to feel sad.
I enjoyed the story a lot until it nosedived after chapter 8.

The substories are also very weak with this one, most of them involving a 'scam' of some sort or, fetch quests like "go find my cat; go find my daughter, etc...

You probably have already heard, but, don't play this game on hard, you'll want to break your controller.


Overall, 6/10. Play this only if you are a fan of the series, if you're a newcomer, this game will leave a bad impression for the amazing experience the rest of the series has to offer.

Beautiful looking game, great story with lots of twists, improved combat from the previous iterations and amazing exp/leveling system. I own all 3 games from the series so far on PC and this is becoming my favorite one yet. 16 hours in and I'm barely halfway through the main story.

Very unique and fun; Intense story; Feels like a interactive crime drama series.
