“Hell Let Loose” is a meticulously designed WW2 first-person shooter that offers a refreshing alternative to mainstream titles like Battlefield 5 and Call of Duty. This game is not about flashy stunts or fast-paced action; it’s about strategic teamwork and a willingness to learn. The gameplay is slower, but it keeps you engaged as you devise strategies to outmaneuver your opponents.

The game offers a variety of roles, including tank crews, recon squads, artillery squads, commanders, and infantry squads. Success hinges on team coordination and communication. For instance, operating a tank effectively requires a three-person team: a spotter, a driver, and a gunner. This level of realism sets it apart from typical arcade-style WW2 games.

Despite being in early access, the developers are highly engaged with the community, regularly holding Q&A sessions and keeping players informed about upcoming updates. They are committed to historical accuracy, which is evident in the game’s sound design and visuals.

However, the game is not without its flaws. The Unreal Engine 4, which the game is built on, is resource-intensive, but the developers are making steady progress in optimizing the graphics.

In conclusion, I highly recommend “Hell Let Loose”. It combines elements of Squad and Day of Defeat, with the added bonus of tanks and artillery, making it a strong contender for the “Better with Friends” award.

16/12/2020 - Update

Unfortunately, the game has taken a downturn recently. The competitive community, of which I am a part, has been negatively affected by changes to the game’s meta. Communities are doing their best to support the game, but without proper recognition and consideration from the developers, these efforts may not be sustainable.

The game seems to be losing its way again. The developers appear to be prioritizing profit over player experience, neglecting the competitive scene and introducing features that detract from the gameplay.

A recent incident involving the community manager failing to attend a charity event organized by the Hell Let Loose community has further strained relations. This incident, along with other issues, has led to a decline in the game’s long-term player base.

The game continues to be developed by a team that seems disconnected from its player base. The competitive community, in particular, feels ignored.
