Boring grind fest. Kept on a side screen for multiple days just to get through it.

This game rubbed me up in all the wrong ways and I love it for it.

This game was borng. I wish I had something better to say about it. I went into it interested, I left feeling underwhelmed. Perhaps in time it'll be better but, in it's alpha state, it's pretty dull, clunky, and [greyed out button here] ... lacking, to say the least.

Much like a rainy day in Yorkshire, this game is beautiful, has quirky accents but is ultimately dull. The point of a 'walking simulator' is to tell a story, and often to feel involved and attached to the person you play as. In this game you play as no person. I feel in this game I learned of a lot of characters but none in any meaningful way, more just a bit of gossip about each stretched thinly over 4-5 hours of... what I resent to call gameplay. The whole plot is understood rather quickly, in the first hour or so of the game, and then you're just left running around like a headless chicken trying to find more dialogue so you can unlock the next bit and progress. Much like an archivist looking through old reels of tape taken by some videographer to try and get a grasp at what happened in a time; this game ultimately feels like work. Disappointingly the only vaguely interesting bit about the story is never really explained. Here is the interesting part of the story summarised: "There are two scientists at an observatory, who discovered a thing in space, and then it did stuff to yourkshire people". That thing is never explained as to what it is, its backstory is never shown, the games secrets are ultimately never revealed. I can only reccomend this game if you want to take a stroll around a pretty, virtual, lifeless but lived in Yorkshre. If you're looking for more than scenery I suggest you look elsewhere, such as the Life is Strange games, or Firewatch; much better entertainment value.

This game, to me, fits in no normal category.
It's a special snowflake.

No part of this game by itself is great, it is a lowly choir member, screeching away, or a violinist plucking at strings.
Nothing by itself, is special.
This game is more an orchestra, where no part by itself sings a great tune, but together it's an epic ensemble that creates a truly great game.

I would not recommend this game to someone who wants to play -another- shooter, -another- jrpg. They would have expectations that would not be met by this game. However, I would vehemently recommend it to anyone who wants to try something new, or who perhaps just doesn't know what kind of game they are in the mood for.

8/10: Great game, great story, a few parts technically and gameplay wise could be better, but not in any game ruining sense. More as a garnish for a good meal to knock it up that final notch.

Everyone is mad because they released an expansion on an unfinished game.

None of this content is what they listed would be in the complete game.

The base game's required improvements to be complete, will also affect the DLC.

The base game will not be negatively impacted by the DLC. (Pay to win isn't true. Servers can deny dino transfer c;!)

There are few games I have sank so many hours into, one is a mod, and not a full game. I have gotten more than my moneys worth. I don't have to buy the expansion. I want to buy the expansion. Think of this, at least it's not horse armor. It's not even just a map. It's new creatures, unique tech and weather. So far as 'dlc' goes, it's great value. I don't think it's distracted the team from the main game, the unexpected success has made them hire more people. Giving people more choice on what to work on drives creativity. Think of the shiney crap that EA releases. Is that what you want of ark? Bored devs made to do grueling work on a thing they hate? Or Devs with more choice and freedom, able to be creative and have choice? Model makers kept on rather than fired since the models are all done?

In the unfinished survival game genre, this one is king. Think of it as finished and still improving if you wish. I judge games by "A complete game" As in, complete, playable, is a game, is fun. Ark is that. Is it complete AS a game? No, they want to do more. Mosty publishers would have left it as was a while back and moved onto something new. Be glad ark is as it is. If it were not so unique in it's ways of doing things, it would be far worse for it.
