I preface this by saying I've been around playing Space Sims for a very long time. Freelancer, X: Beyond the Frontier, X2, Wing Commander Privateer, Starlancer... all of theses I've loved.

This game is an unplayable mess. I'm so stressed. Constant bugs (I often float down THROUGH capital ships rather than dock with them until I reload, so I have to save approximately every 3 minutes to hopefully avoid each game killing bug).

Mission "briefings" are useless... it like, zooms in to random places on the map (Different places each time I playback the Briefing, and often jumping from one empty square of space to another with ZERO CONTEXT) and doesn't let me easily "target" my goal. Auto-Pilot randomly stops (near nothing, so it isn't like I'm at risk of hitting something or interacting with another ship or station or something) and needs you to start it again to continue on to the next goal... but then it won't start again, indicating I'm AT my goal but... THERE IS NOTHING HERE! I miss X 1 and 2. They were so much fun. Straight forward... PLAYABLE!

I've looked up a lot of help and man... it's a lot of people asking for help and then a lot of fans of the game saying, basically, "This game is complex and probably isn't FOR YOU." Like... what?! It's a game right? "Don't negatively review this game if you can't figure out how to play it," How about having an interface that can be easily understood and manipulated? Because if you feel the need to say that, it means there are so many people complaining that the game is unplayable that they might have a point.

Aside from going back and replaying classic space sims that I've played 5-10 times through each... I don't know where to find a modern version of these classic games that have: Open Space, Trading, Combat, Various Mission Types, NPC Conversations, Ship Upgrades, and so on... this is basically it, I think... and it's stressing me out feeling like I will never be able to actually get what the hell is going on.

Early Access Review
Do not judge this game on your first playthrough. I had a horrible time the first time out. I realize that I wasn't ready to actually have FUN.

So many other games have you conditioned recently to need to "win" to have fun. Lethal Company is like Call of Cthulhu (for those into TTRPGs)... you aren't expected to have a 100% win condition, you're expected to have a shared experience with others, struggling to make it just one more day, knowing that the Company will eventually squeeze you dry and "discipline" you out of the airlock.

Once I stopped being grumpy at getting et for the 6th drop in a row, and remembered that I could laugh at myself again? I was having a blast with friends until 3am and found peace and joy in playing a game again.

I'm sorry. This surely is a great trainer but I feel like I'm going to be sick every time I play it. I've never felt this before in any other FPS. I don't know what it is, but I feel nauseous about halfway through every trial. Nothing seems to help. Not Dramamine or... other relaxing substances. I wish I could handle this. Even free moving VR doesn't do this to me. I've tried this out for over a year, coming back to it every month or so, but I can't keep trying something that is not healthy for me.

I mean, a twisted sense of humor, procedural map generation, and classic Zelda meets SmashTV gameplay? What's not to like.

This is a painful game with no joy or hope. This miserable experience should not be played by anyone who deals with mental or emotional trauma. This is only glorified suffering that someone thought would be "cool" to exploit. I am worse off for having played it. This sadness I feel right now is all consuming. Great job. I guess this game did what it was expected to.

After years of playing this game, I finally figured I should say something nice about it. It's been an absolute blast. The multiplayer in particular is where it shines. I just wish there were cross-platform playability. I know all the different platforms have very different versions of the game but I've found that to be rather silly. Never seems to make sense why this is the case aside from the age-old cry of "balance" which never seems to ring true for me. Aside from that, love it and own it on Xbox and here on PC.
